yup if u look the car was stripped right down and cleaned and it shows whatw as done underneath, the areas which had perfect underseal had all the edges taken back at least an inch to make sure they were perfect. then all cleaned down with thinners to remove any fine scum which the steam hose hadnt taken of, then painted with the red primer the same as the underneath the primed. As the whole car was being stonechipped agian they was no need to take of any of the factory stuff which was mint. [:)]

Had a look through my archive and it's really hard to find original Exclusives. The one car I know to be tee-total original is Simon's:

ExclusiveCoupe.jpg

Pat's Exclusive Hatch also has the Exclusive decal on the passenger side, if that helps. I also noticed Nick and Jo's Exclusive had grey decals though ?

The next stage is to remove the inner tray and bracing from the sunroof to we can get access to the roof where it has rotted [:(]

A bit more progress this time on the roof [:0]

This bit I wasnt looking forward to as I hadnt a clue what i was going to run into [:(]

roof%201.JPG

first of all was to remove the sunroof cage so we could get a bit closer to the roof

roof%2013.JPG

some rust in it but nothing to worry about, the holes in the roof are more important

roof%2015.JPG

with the cage out the cross brace was loosened from the roof skin and the spot welds undone, then tapped back to remove

roof%2016.JPG

underneath of the roof skin not looking to healthy

roof%2017.JPG

top side of the brace well rusted

roof%2019.JPG

Next the inside of the roof was all sanded down and treated with Jenolite to neutralise any remaining rust

roof%207.JPG

After the brace was sanded down and done with jenolite then coated with zinc primer 92% , a rather heavy tin

the roof was coated as well then the inner brace put back in and welded

roof%204.JPG

The outside of the roof was sanded down to remove the rust

roof%206.JPG

loads of holes to content with right across the rear of the roof and round the corners

roof%2011.JPG

the holes were preped and the edges tapped down slightly then lead filled

roof%2010.JPG

roof%209.JPG

well pleased with the result and the roof once again is all solid metal, with that done the gap between the inner brace and the roof got a light spray of dinitrol, didnt want to put to much in incase it melted on a sunny day and dripped down.

Next to do is weld the sunroof cage back into place and skim the roof slightly to get it ready for primer [:)]

Really nice work there Robbie. I note the '92% zinc' primer. Now who could that be made by...?[;)][:D]

I think this section would be well worth a 'How to repair your roof properly' topic elsewhere on the site as it's the first time I've ever seen it in such detail anywhere.

Cheers,

Joe.

kev would be the master on roofs [^] the zinc primer wasnt bilthamber lol, seems quite a few people do it under different names, but all charge around the same price. I picked up a few tins at the NEC show.

Looking forward to getting the roof finished as thats the last of the welding.

Onto the bodywork after that [:)]

Looks like it Enda.

Jayus this past few weeks have done my head innormal works seems the easy bit, with building this new garage for the good cars my car time seems limited so longer working days are taking their effect on me. [:(]

Anyways Ryans car has come along a good bit the roof is all back together and the body work all rubbed down and sorted, then primed and 4 coats of top coat added.

On the down side there is more left to do than is done

2 wings

2 doors

2 side skirts

front bumper

pertrol cap

3 piece spoiler

sunroof

they are going to take ages

Once i got the shell sprayed had to start adding a few bits back onto the car to clear space and make it start looking like a car again [^]

Plus Ryan has been spending loads of time sanding down the body as well and a few parts [:)]

Found a new one today had some acid around the place, well it does wonders to rust as well , heres a few before and after pics, the bracket was left in the acid for 4 hrs, nasty stuff but does seem to work well, mind you rubber gloves and a full face mask is well recommended [:D]

Not sure what to tackle next will either be some more body panels or get the engine painted up and the rear axle and crossmember sorted.

cheers Enda went back to do a bit on the car this evening and decided to work on the engine for now and get it cleaned up and painted then into the car, along with the front crossmember, Ryan has the back axle almost sorted so the painting of the other bits can wait a week or so, [:)]

I dunno about a good guide, I think the No1 tip would be to try and find a mint manta that just needed some servicing and soaked with more dinitrol, that way you would save hundreds of hrs in a chilly workshop and prob end up with a bigger bank balance [:D]

Cheers Paul I hope it don't rust for a while, way to many parts on an Exclusive to spray. got a bit done over this past while but still getting slowed down by building the new garage to house the cars, but its near finished now just some work left on the outside. After that I can get stuck back into the cars [^]
