vauxsenb
_Cribbed fro the Retro Car Club forum, some of the roads used are amazing ____________________________ ____________________ The date for the Tour of the Trossachs meeting has now been confirmed as the 19th SEPTEMBER 2009 EDIT; SUNDAY 20th September --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The route is the same as last year, except that the meeting point is now in the car park next to the Stirling services just off the A9 as some had trouble finding the old Doune hillclimb venue.. ________________________ Meet at 12 noon to depart 12.30. ________________________ This is an ASOC event, but all owners of classic / retro / historic competition / interesting cars are very welcome to take part. For those who haven't done it previously, the route is of approximately 70 miles on some tremendous driving roads through the beautiful scenery of Stirlingshire and the Trossachs. The route heads west on the A84 to Aberfoyle where there is a short rest halt in the main rear car park, before turning north on the A821 and up the demanding Duke's Pass towards Loch Katrine into the Trossachs, the heart of Rob Roy country, alongside Loch's Achray and Venachar to Kilmahog, then bearing north on the A84 past Loch Lubnaig to Lochearnhead where there is a second rest halt, and then the A85 towards Crieff before returning to the A9/ M9. The central location has easy links to the A9/M9 from North, South and East. If the weather is as good as last year it will no doubt be another great run on roads ideally suited to these kind of cars. Hope to see some of you there! N>B> For those travelling from the south west, there is a meeting point at the old Hillman/Chrysler/Talbot factory at Linwood near Paisley close to the M8 J26. Meet in the car park outside the old office building (opposite McDonalds) at 10.30am for 11.00am departure to Stirling Services via M8 and M80. vauxsenb
IMPORTANT UPDATE; STOP PRESS Due to extensive long-term roadworks currently being carried out on the M80 between Moodiesburn and Castlecary which have been causing horrendous delays, this event has been moved to:- SUNDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER All other details remain as previously. (except that the butcher in Aberfoyle will be closed, so no pies!) There is also talk of taking an alternative route to Stirling to avoid the congestion as some of the major engineering works take place over the weekends. This could increase the estimated journey time further, so please watch this space nearer the day. I hope this doesn't cause any problems. vauxsenb
Hi Rab, Enjoy the day,(and the queue's on the way out) I will hear in due course just how many of you make it to Selkirk (you mean folks actually booked and payed to show off their cars!!!) seeing as so few turned out for Thirlestane after so many having said they were coming along. Thanks go to those who did make the effort to join us at Lauder, you know who you are guys , I hope you all enjoyed the day. Me?, I will be doing my impression of a hooligan around the Trossachs, should be fun following the success of the Brands Hatch to Nurburgring Retro run. the Cavvy managed 850+ miles on the other side of the water and never let me down . Cheers All, Colin.

vauxsenb
Best make sure you have the exact pass relevant to your motor Rab, 'cos last year Maria Povey was turning cars away who owners had decided to bring a substitute vehicle on the day instead of the one they had entered (even if on club stands, and ours had 51 cars on it) if the reg No. did not match her entry sheet it was into the public parking and then pay £8 to walk in to the ground. She is a stickler for detail and gives us headaches every year. All the best, Colin.

vauxsenb
Hi Brian, was good to meet you kiddo,(and your mate, sorry I've forgotten his name) your motor is obscenely clean I think we helped stop the event being a total Ford day out, between our pair of motors, the Lotus Sunbeams and the Tiger we kinda evened things out a bit. That route was every bit as as good as I hoped it would be, just need to go back and sweep up all the rubber I left behind, lol. You have to say the all Escorts were well turned-out, and the Cossie powered mk2 was superb (whats the price tag gonna be ) it was quieter than I expected somehow and yet looking well hard. Hope you enjoyed the run and the motor was nowhere near getting hot'n'bothered, deffo go back for next year Cheers, Colin. Big B i200
Cheers Colin, it was great to meet you too. Fantastic run and my car behaved impeccably throughout, so happy with that. Would have been nice to have seen a few more cars there but the cars that were there were all cracking. Your car does not hang about, dont know what happened at the end but the traffic allowed us to split up and sorry we did not see you at Gleneagles, we also lost Eddie in the blue Sunbeam, he passed us going the other way but we waited at Gleneagles but he didnt come by there either. Thoroughly enjopyed meeting everyone and the blast, looking forward to the video, will need to make sure Jim sends a link. I got home literally 10 mins before the rain started, perfect timing. Cheers Brian. (btw my mates name is Clive, but doubt he will be back, he enjoyed it, but think it was a little too quick for him )
vauxsenb
Some pics from the weekend . . . . fancy we could do a similar run around the Borders using the Devil's Beeftub/Moffat/St Mary's loch/Ettrick valley and back up the A7 to Edinburgh. Food for thought . . . . Cheers, Colin.
