GMC
GMC Motorsport reluctantly offer for sale their multiple class winning Opel Corsa. Built over winter 2001/2002 to a tarmac specification, it has widely competed across Scotland, Northern England and Ireland. Powered by a 1400cc 16v Bowyer Development engine, it dominated it’s respective classes over the ’02,’03,04 & 05 seasons. Since then it has only competed in selected events due to increasing family & work commitments, it has however continued to be upgraded and developed during this ‘quiet’ period (see specification below). The car was built and continues to be maintained by Gerry McCafferty and Davie Hatrick of GMC Motorsport. As can be seen, it is prepared to a very high standard and with Gerry & Davie’s prep skills and attention to detail, no area has been overlooked. With the build costing circa £19k (materials only) and almost 1,500 hours of our own time, the specification and quality are notable. The car continues to be maintained irrespective of cost, again this can be seen noted in the schedule below. In addition to the quality build, the car benefits from a bespoke rear suspension design details of which are also in the specification below. This we believe has contributed to the enormous success of the car. GMC Motorsport’s ethos was continued development & preventative maintenance - we didn’t wait on components failing, we adopted a strict on & off event maintenance regime which ensured vulnerable parts & components were replaced periodically avoiding on-stage time loss and even retirement. With only 3 ‘mechanical fault’ retirements since the original build, our finishing record is second to none. Usually finishing Top 15, frequently Top 10 and even a Top 5, it’s no surprise this car received much attention from both spectators and fellow competitors, and given it’s 1400cc engine, it deservedly gained a ‘Giant killer’ status! Painted in BMW ‘golf yellow’ and with its striking livery it’s not easily missed! The shell is a 1993 L-registration and the original plate has been transferred back to the car as the team are retaining the personal plate. With family and work commitments continuing to increase, I’ve reached the difficult decision to sell the car and spares package. A full car specification is scheduled below. Also noted is an overview of the spares package, this is however only a summary and the package is equipped with all ‘typical’ spares required on any event. Preferably, I’d like to sell the car and spares together, however, if required I’m prepared to sell the car separately. Whilst the car currently sits on a tarmac specification, it could easily be converted to forest spec, indeed, many of the required components are inclusive in the spares package. The car is MSA logbooked, and currently has 12 months MOT, 6 months road tax and is fully insured for the public highway, therefore I’m happy to take any interested person ‘a spin up a quiet road’! The location of the car alternates between my home and our store, both located in the Glasgow/Edinburgh central belt area. All documents are available for the car although I await return of the V5 registration document from DVLA with the new registration details.
