Quarter-Life-Crisis Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 (edited) Having sold my transit due to lack of use i have some money to buy a Volvo estate. Ive made my mind up and its got to be a V70 or a slightly older 850 It has to be an estate and must have a towbar and roof rails so i can fit a roofrack unless its cheap so i can buy them secondhand and fit them. Anything considered but not sheds. At least 6 months MOT and at very least a months tax so i can legally drive it home. I Live in Lincoln so would be willing to travel 50 miles max radius, perhaps a bit further for a bargain or exceptional car. Budget is £800 max for a car with a lot of MOT 6 months tax minimum, roofbars, towbar and under 150,000miles Its a fair price £800 so is not an impossible task. Bit like saying £1250 budget for a reasonable manta. Its a bit of an odd request i know but if you dont ask you dont get. Bit rarer but would consider a subaru legacy outback too, same requirements. Mick Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Good choice of load lugger I will keep an eye out for one. I know of a 850 but no roof rails, no towbar...
Quarter-Life-Crisis Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 Good choice of load lugger I will keep an eye out for one. I know of a 850 but no roof rails, no towbar... Cheers Mick. Towbar is £100 for the Volvo, not many second hand ones about unfortunately. Roof rails available from a breaker around £50 hence if they were already on the car i dont have to knock £150 off the asking price for them. There may well be an urgent job of a new cambelt a waterpump fitting depending on if my future as yet unknown car needs it doing.
Mick Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 One thing worth knowing, the towbars are the same for all 2wd 850 saloon and estates and S70 V70 of the same shape. I got mine off Ebay from an 850 estate and its now on my/andys/steves/andys Volvo S70

Kevin Abbott Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) Great cars and handle really well. I have a 2.5 20v turbo v70 estate and it moves loads of stuff, i get about 24 mpg but it's the use you get out of the car that is astounding Mine is an auto and doesn't tow very well though as the car/trailer/manta/caravan pushes it on, it works but just doesn't feel just right. Things to check, the rear beam to chassis bushes, iv'e changed mine on the 850 and the v70, cv boots wear out, pain in the arse to change, they are hard on brakes ( er, that may be just me as my v70 has 200 brake and i throw it around 0 Front drop links go, no rust to worry about, aircon needs a re-gas every 12 month. Electrics can be dodgy but mostly need cleaning or wiggling Parts from the local volvo specialists/beakers are cheap, like you say £100 for a witter tow bar, take it of yourself so you get ALL the bits, roof rails £50 Apart from that i'd recommend one . Cheers Kev typo edit Edited September 6, 2010 by Kevin Abbott
