Manta Hatch £16,000 Ono

Recommended Posts

This is John's, our club secretary's car. I'm as surprised as anyone to see it for sale as he must have buried more time, effort and money into it than most people do on their houses. Haven't heard from him for a while so I hope it's for the want of selling

Yep it is mine and is for sale.

Got 2 people coming to look tomorrow, have turned one offer down already, so as to some of the comments i have read on other forums the price is what it is and if a buyer is happy to pay then all well and good.

Will be really sad to see this go but life is life.

John

You also have to remember that this car is one of only three cars in the UK thats hase the orginal factory fit AC system.

As said in other posts you won't find a better car and this will still be on the road and un-welded long after most of the other cars.

if your other two views fall through let me know as i've a contact in Germany who would be very interetsed

Cheers

Andy

I wish I had that sort of cash - I did look down the sofa but no joy :( Its a great looking car and I prefer Hatches anyway but no doubt if it was a coupe the price wouldnt cause so much debate, good luck with the sale and if my numbers come up on Wednesday Ill be in touch B)

Toni, Andy Chris;

Thanks you for the positive comments, makes a nice change to see positive comments rather than being slated on other forums, the comment i copied from another opel site.

"I don't car if he spent £20k on it, it will never be worth more than £4k..... it is a hatch!!!!!"

Some people really ought to stop talking the price of our beloved Manta's down and slating them. If people cant be positive then they should really think twice about what they say. The guy who made the above comment obviously does not like hatches................... well there are a lot of people who do and i am one of them............

Toni, if your number do come up on Wednesday drop me a line :thumbup

Well, I like it! and people can value it which anyway they wish to. The fact is the owner value the car at £16k. If you are looking for one of the best Manta's available then it's worth it.

A 2.8 Capri in this condition would command this figure so why not the GM product which was always the better car in every respect. I do actually like the Capri as well. Good luck with the sale and someone will buy this car for this amount of £ I'm sure

Nice to see some positives things being said on here.....and all the negative comments on "other" forums - hope it stays that way too!

Anyone who knows John or the car will know that this really is one of the best Mantas in the club and certainly the "newest". What you are looking at here is basically a Manta that is only a few years old and that has got to be worth £16k of anyones money.

In a way, I hope you don't sell it John as that car is as much part of you as anything.

If you do, I hope it goes to a good home and that the new owner appreciates it as much as you do. Best of luck and I hope it works out for the best.

PB.

A car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If someone thinks it's worth 16 grand then there's your valuation right there.

Value aside, the car really is a stunning example and a true credit to all who have worked on and maintained it. Maybe some super high res pics linked from the auction to really show it off would help John?

Car's no good to me though, I'd only stove a rear quarter in coming sideways out of a backroad junction (no idea how I haven't managed that yet with my own hatch, though I have managed to notch up a square wheel :D )

Look like a excellent Manta, and worth the asking price for the spec given. If this was a MK2 Escort no one would question the amount!

If it was a mk1 escort it would be 30000+ i bet. Whats the price of a modern car brand new shell?.... and there kak. Good luck with the sale, I am a coupe man myself, but that is a nice car, every credit.

This is true, I used to have Mk1 and 2 Escorts when I started driving, buy one for £100, drive it until the MOT ran out break it, get £200 buy another for £100 etc... Try doing it now! I used to get Exclusive coupes for 3-400 quid with MOTs not long ago, now they are 2K minimum.

Prices are on the up for anything Classic or Retro these days, and for a 'As new' Manta, probably one of very few anywhere it may seem a lot but look around at other cars... Good luck with the sale :thumbup

I know this car well, i should i sold the brand new shell and the money spent rebuilding it was no expense spared. well worth the money it is virtually brand new. sorry to see the current owner is selling it.

Please don't think that I am being a bit forward, but in all my years in the motor trade, I have never come accros an instance when someone has a new shell in stock so many years after they finished making them, it's a slightly different situation to someone needing a door hinge, for eg, Question, has anyone got a brand new Manta shell? Answer, I may have one packed away somewhere, I'll have a look and let you know!!!! Anyway I know for a fact, if I had plenty money I'd be willing to give £20,000 for that car, when I see all the crap that people pay that sort of money for today, ,that car is well worth the cash that is being asked for it, and I think that the owner will be very sorry that he will have let it go.
