Twin Lamps

hi i have just had some new twin lamps from a club member for my exclusive gte . problelem is the ones i had on my car were more rounded fronts and the dip bulbs were 3 pin and had a wide hole to seat them in . the new set only has a small slit the same as the main beam one in the dip inner lamp?what bulb goes in there ?

plaese can anyone help on this on and do i need to get someone in to rewire the lamps on the loom

Your outer lamps need to have the big bulb holder to take the H4 Bulb. The H4 is a 2 filament bulb to work dip and full beam where the small H1 bulb is only a single for full beam only. So basically the lamp with the small slit is only use for the inners and you'll have to get outer lamps to hold H4 (3 pin) bulbs. No need to rewire.

Not all quad lamp setups had H4 outer lamps as standard.

Can't remember which version it was, but one type came with H1 bulbs in the outer and inner lamps

Hi bulbs look like this incase anyone doesn't know:

When you put full beam on the outer lamps would go out and the inner come on, so you only had 2 lamps lit at any time

Rather than the H4 outer lamps which gave you 4 lit up at once.

You can fit and run the newer lamps but you'll need to do a bit of re-wiring.

thanks for the help wish i knew this b4 i bought them , a bit of moding on the wieing needed i think . thanks to all who replied

It sounds like you are after a set of cibie lights & have bought a set of Hella. I did the same thing

Look how the lenses are cut. if inner and outer are cut the same in the glass then you will have issues with beam pattern i.e. you may have four mains and regardless of which pair you light you would be on main beam.

the outers do have a hole to take side light bulb along with the beam , from what i have read think the type i have instead of on main beam all four lighting up two outers go off and two inners come on . with my old units all 4 light up on main . silly way of doing things

done teach that in any of the things b4 u buy lol lol

ok now rewired with relay so all 4 come on with main beam silly set up . upgraded bulb s in main to 100w clear blue still running 55w on dip

how did you wire yur hellas to all come on full? the live is killed to outer when put main beam on? cheers
