How Can I Get A Manta Coupe Again?

Looking at the prices of Coupes these days its depressing, I doubt I will be able to get another. As with everything the prices have soared beyond my reach, Mk1/2 Escorts now need a Mortgage, GTE and Exclusive Coupes are beyond me now. Struggled to sell Exclusives for £600 not long ago, B series Plastic bumpered cars fetched the least but now they are over a grand...

I have a Jaguar XJ Sport for sale, full leather 220bhp quick quiet all the electic toys but cant get over £600 for it... I know its due to high fuel consumption but surely a decent car will sell right??

Dont know what to do now, not got loads of cash to get a toy but would love a Coupe again.....

Seen a chrome bumpered B coupe no engine and a Black GTE Hatch I could afford as they are now... but as Julian says coming up to Xmas, not a priority. I used to have 2 or 3 Mantas at a time, Turbo Hatches, Low mileage Coupes, now its a struggle to get the petrol to get to work.. WTF happened!!??

Build a cobra over a few years the jag will give you loads of donar parts and the v5 can be used to register the car :) problem with any classic car now is that a proper bare shell respay is hiting 3k plus, so the chances of getting a cheap car are slim. I was lucky early this year and picked up a mint , never welded car for a few k but that 's rare now. Main prob now is that people are looking 6k for 4 door ascona halfords sticker stile which no one wants, Take your time Mick, as with women the right one comes to he who waits. Body wise an early B or mk1 as the steel is so much better then fit it out the way u want.

Know what you mean Mick

In the early nineties I paid through the nose for a 1.8 hatch then a Black GTE coupe, then a white GTE coupe, then went on to look at a 'B' series coupe for £200.

Car was pretty much non existent, interior fooked, no bumpers, wings, wipers, trim, and a non runner.

I paid for car and got it sorted travelling 50 miles to the car to get it running and sorted with red GTE front Bumper, black hatchback bumper, and black etch primed wings on a white car, thank God the police that dropped their jaw when they saw me driving it were stuck in traffic going the other way :P . (er no tax mot or ins)

But for very little cash outlay I ended up with a GTE coupe lookalike (eventually) which went on to beat Jock Ramsey's superb orange B in the modified B category at Billing.

Also picked up for free (talking to Pat Maher recently about these good old days) a couple of Manta 'B's one of which was really stuffed and went on to win car of the show with it, the other was tidy as hell but I crashed it, also picked up an absolutely fantastic 'B' hatch for £100 I bet to this day it still doesn't need any welding.

Can't remember the others, had many many Manta's over the years but the 'B's were always the best and the cheapest.

Current Manta project is an old B that was free as the previous owner new I would do something with it.

If you have some time and facility/ies I would keep my eyes out for an old B series over a GTE, and just make it look and drive like one or rather, drive better than a GTE.
