hi all..can anyone confirm if it is possible to remove the crossmember braces that go to the swan necks whilst the engine is in?

were on a gte with the redtop/ 1.8 sump fitted,and the inner bolt that goes thru crossmember and holds steering rack on looks like the bolt will not come out cos of the wing on the sump? haqs anyone done it? i've just poly bushed some new susp components and those braces too,and i am goin to attempt the swap over!! but probly wont bother with the brace if its a nacker to get off..anyway thanks in advance..;)

If I've read this correct, you want to remove the front axle without removing the engine ja? Possible, but you will have to support the engine and gearbox in the car and remove engine mounts off engine.

Second what manta88 said. The arms can be removed to improve access to the legs for repair. In the 1800 version you will have to undo the engine mounts and jack the engine up so you can take those long 17mm headed bolts all the way out.

thanks again for the info chaps..now sorted..length of wood over shock mounts to hold engine up and lowered the crossmember a tad..what a b***h of a job! the bottom arms are abit fiddly to refit into member aswell. i was begining to think i'd bent something :unsure: ..thanks
