I've wired up all the injection loom to my cav apart from a black wire underneath the coil, also a black and red ignition wire on the four pin plug of the injection loom, does this have to. go to the ignition barrel or is there somewhere else i can wire to for an ignition feed? Also having difficulty with ignition. timing, argghh Sposed to have this done for saturday for a 300 mile trip so any help would be much appreciated.

hi mate to check timming on a cih , you have an inspection hole on the block , rotate the crank until you find a small ball on the fly wheel and set this to the pointer arrow in the inspection hole, once you have done this check your rotor arm is at no1 if its not turn the crank around again this is static timming . you can advance or retard the timmiing on the dizzy , you should use a stobe when running. cheers steve

the black wire under the coil is the 12v live. this has to go to the ignition switch to become live when the ign is on.(you could use the old feed to the autochoke) the black/red wire is not an ign feed ,it goes to the small operating wire on the starter motor.(it becomes live only when spinning the engine)

Exactly as above.

Regarding ign timing you should use the flywheel. There should also be a mark on the front crank pulley for the V belt and marks on the chain cover where the dizzy goes down to the oilpump. There is a big mark ,and some smaller ones to indicate degrees. This is where your can use the strobe for adjustment.

I never used one though. You set everything on the marks, fire the engine up and let it get warm. When at operation temp you loosen the dizzy (engine still running) and twist it counter clockwise until your rev counter says around 850-900 rpm. You will also hear a "plopping" sound from the exhaust when it is just right. That has always worked perfectly for me. Guess im kind of a geek though...laugh.gif

This has been tested using a emissiontester and when i have adjusted manta´s this way they have always been good.thumbsup.gif
