Dave750rs
Spotted this on Ebay anyone know anything about it and how hard it would be to convert to rhd ?? what would be the going rate for a rolling shell ??? adz the stig
i think its drew selling it if my memory is right? i'm watching this just to see how much it goes for
Shug
Buy it now price was £1750 before bidding started. Are 2 door shells really getting that much now? Sure I've seen complete driveable ones in germany for a grand. Mind you, you still have to go there and bring it back!
stradacab
With regards to value (and as an Ascona owner) go and buy a front panel, two wings and a bonnet and let me know how much you spend...... GM were generous enough to tool up for two bulkheads which makes LHD to RHD conversion very difficult.
399Road
I thought that Asconas on German Ebay were from around 3 to 5 thousand Euros and some of these were 4 door models. If you found a 2 door one and then bought it and brought it back, you'd probably rip it's interior and Engine out anyway and then want to respray it to build it to your own spec. So the way I see it, this Ascona's already had all the trim and Engine disposed of and will save you doing it yourself... Left hand drive doesn't take much getting used to and I think that a 400 replica looks a bit more "Hardcore" in LHD. .Luke.

drew
YES ITS MY CAR,A COUPLE OF THOSE GERMAN CARS ARE OK BUT ONE IS IN BERLIN AND THE OTHER ONE IS A LOT OF MONEY, THE GREEN CAR IS A LOT LIKE A UK CAR VERY RUSTY, I HAVE A VERY GOOD FRIEND IN GERMANY THAT FINDS ME THE GOOD CARS AS ANYONE WHO HAS BOUGHT A 2 DOOR ASCONA FROM ME WILL TESTIFY. I THINK IN MY OPINION THE PRICE IS A FAIR PRICE FOR THE CAR, AS LUKE SAID THIS CAR IS STRIPPED SO IT CAN BE VEIWED WITHOUT ANYTHING HIDDEN BY CARPETS ETC.I WOULD RATHER START WITH A GOOD SOLID SHELL THAN BUY A RUSTY ONE AND TRAIL HALFWAY ROUND EUROPE FOR IT. THE WAY I SEE IT A LOT OF THE HARD WORK HAS BEEN DONE. THANKS FOR THE POSSITIVE COMMENTS.

As far as prices go i am not to sure as ascona projects don't come along very often but in the past i have travelled long distances to find so called clean escort shells that need minor work only to find they need a full resto so i would agree on the travelling round europe comment Dave
Andy18s
I'm not having a go about the price or condition of the car, just showing that there are still cars out there! Obviously you get what you pay for. a £500 Ascona is going to have issues to deal with. Glws Andy
adz the stig
can you not cut out a lhd bulkhead out of a ascona and put it a rhd bulkhead out of a 5 door cavalier??
stradacab
can you not cut out a lhd bulkhead out of a ascona and put it a rhd bulkhead out of a 5 door cavalier?? Theoretically, yes, but jeez you would have to be a brave man
Dave750rs
Like the idea of changing bulkheads then thought why not weld up and fill rear doors on the 5 door Cavalier ????
adz the stig
just weld the back doors to the front doors then you have a practcal 2door ha ha.
Shug
Someone grafted the sides of a cav coupe to an ascona to make a 2dr ascona. Brave man!
spiney_norman
That was gt4_ade on here, using panels from a scrapped 2 door Ascona to convert a 4 door Ascona. I might even see the car soon!
Dave750rs
Wouldn't mind seeing pictures of that it would take a fair bit of doing not to mention the manhours involved !!!!!
