Manta For Sale 400 Body Kit

This is my much loved Manta for sale., which I am loathed to sell, so it will take a very good offer to purchase her from me.

Last used in vengence in the year 2000, she has not been used since.

The picture shows what she did look like in 2000, with some loving care and attention she would look the same or better dependant on how much you wish to spend on her.

She helped me win the 2000 Home County's Autocross Championship and in my opinion she is something very special, if she went out next season, with the right nut behind the wheel she would win it again. She is the same vehicle but has sadly been standing for the last 10 years.

Ideally she would be a great Autocross contender though I can see her being used for circuit racing / drag racing, possibly rallying when made road legal.

When I was autocrossing (grassland) I got to over 100mph, if the circuits had been longer I'm sure she would have made 120 + that was with 5th gear blocked off (though thats really an overdrive gear) She originally had a 2lt twin weber pinto but when I put the V8 in it was like driving in an armchair, so easy, predictable and awesome.

Details.

Manta 400 fiberglass body kit.

Rover V8 3.5ltr engine. (slightly tuned)

English Axle with 4.4 LSD.

Quickrack steering.

3 gallon alloy fuel tank with heigh speed pump (she's very thirsty 6mpg :))

Glass (no chips or cracks) front screen. Perspex side and rear windows

Lightweight door panels

Alloy rims on the front, steel rears, tyres are M & S but after all this time I wouldn't recommend using them :)

Well thats what I'm selling, if anyone has interest in her please make me an offer.picturefromoldcomputer2.jpg

If you have any question PM me.

Sorry for the delay lads, I have been busy on other things.

But to be quite honest with you, I have no idea what the manta is worth, ok I can add up parts like the LSD, V8 engine, Roll cage etc also looking at other vehicles, it seems to me the longer I keep it the better off i'll be :P I'll try to get some pic's up after this cold weather spell subsides, end if next week maybe.

If in the meantime you want to suggest a figure (no commitment either way) please tell me. Thanks Mike.

OK PICTURES ARE UP.

I feel quite ashamed that she is in the condition she is, I was going to try and tidy her up but thought whomever wanted to buy her should see her at her worst

Looks like it might have potential. So.............. as I can't be buyer and seller, how much do you want for it ????

I'll try work out how far you are so I can work out transport costs.

Hi Shuviteer, To answer your question, I haven't got a clue what she's worth, hence I came here to the experts to get some advise as to what she may be worth, BUT we have to start somewhere so here it goes, I'd like to see #3000 for her but being realistic I'm not going to get that, so please make me a sensible offer :) I can only say no if its not enough.

Have I got this correct....??? You'd like to see £3000 for this car??????

Don't want to come across as being rude, but just from the pics alone you can see the front panel is shot, the turrets that mount the rad have been cut up, the roof is one big dent.

Just to address those problems alone is one hell of a lot of work and expense even more so due to the 400kit that is blended in to the front bumper.

I won't go on about the problem areas on the pics that any prospective purchaser would encounter, but all I will say is that for most Manta enthusiasts there is not a lot here to tempt them to part with any hard earned, I may be wrong though.

I thought the same, it seems it is in a very bad way from the looks of it, it looks like it was a bit of a beast at one time, i would say its not worth more than 1500 and thats on a good day and thats only because there is a LSD in it. its a shame about the roof etc it would be a good project and it looks like an early coupe so better metal might of saved it a little better. Good luck with the sale though.

#opel2000, Thanks for your comments, I take and understand what you have said, though the next line after £3000 I did state "but being realistic I'm not going to get that," LOL, it was more like wishful thinking, I was asked for a price so gave one :P

So lets see what we have here, I'll try and price it up with a LOW to HIGH prices, could you please tell me if you think I'm being realistic. Low High

Complete English axle (could be an Atlas or even a Salisbury not sure) halfshafts and 4.4 Limited Slip Diff £500 £1000

Rover 3.5 V8 (Carb not injection)slightly tuned with clutch and 5 speed manual gearbox £300 £ 500

3 x Compomotive alloys rims plus 2 x Weller steel rims £ 60 £ 80

Roll cage £ 25 £ 45

Quick rack steering box £ 25 £ 35

Momo steering wheel £ 10 £ 20

3 gallon alloy fuel tank £ 20 £ 40

Facet fuel pump £ 25 £ 35

Rolling Shell with 400 body parts and ancillaries £ 250 £ 450

Handmade straight through V8 exhaust system £ Hell knows

£1215 £ 2205

So what you think people, whats she really worth to someone ?

Thanks Mike. PS. regarding the sunroof, We weren't allowed to race with a glass sunroof which it had, so a steel panel was welded in :( and my 5yr old son standing on it didn't exactly help :)

pps. and yes Danny she was an absolute beast :) and quite thirsty at 5 mile to the gallon :)

I'll give you £50 for the roll cage any time you want to sell it :D

Ok, ok being serious now

I sold a roll cage for £170 last year and a quickrack for £70 so those prices you've guessed a little low

Oh and the solid state facet fuel pump i can see in the boot is about £10 (assuming its not seized)

Not sure what the engine is worth but it does look like its been stood for a long time unrun so getting it to start will increase its value

Its also worth checking what axle it is as an Atlas is worth much much more than an English, and depending on what ratio the cwp is also affects the price a lot so worth looking at that too

The shell may not be worth fixing and the bodykit is going to require a whole lot of work to be re-usable so getting someone who wants to take it on as a complete project might be a hard task.

The only other comment is that a car is always worth less as a complete unit than it is worth in parts sold seperatly.

would totally agree that the axle is a strong selling point for you Aurora, but is only really suited to a car of this type due to the ratios of 4.4, wouldn't make for an economical road car.

Roll cage is underpriced mate, i think you could be looking for a bit more than that.

V8 engine, and manual box, is a tough one...... for someone doing a V8 conversion into Manta this would be worth a lot in the terms of time trouble and hassle from prospective purchaser doing it all from scratch, I know cos i've been there. but for sale as a V8 engine and box it would be whatever the going rate would be (whatever that is these days) but I would have thought £300 to £500 poss more.

I've read your posts on this car, and appreciate the sentimental attachment, but realistically to raise a decent sum of cash from this it is gonna be a breaker, OR a low priced whole project for someone, but I'll tell you now, if you sell this as a whole the purchaser will break it regardless, so perhaps not a good idea to sell too cheap as a whole item.

The correct items are there forthis to be a damn good track, sprint/whatever car, but as a lot of us know in the OMOC that time and weather deteriorates these old cars substantially, and there will be a lot of work underneath to rectify as well as the exterior needing tidying.

However upon saying all that...........

If I had this in my possession a few years back when I had some facilities......

I would have........

Removed engine, stripped and rebuilt, and tuned up a tad, (nice thing about RV8's is they can be rebuilt very good and at a cheap price too)

Repair any bad chassis and metalwork underneath vehicle, and would have looked into replacing roof, but may have just removed as much dent as poss before adding bracing beneath roof.

Remove bumper wings and fit new front panel, poss cheap fibreglass 4 slotter, but if done correct would look 100% better.

Refit panels and go over the arches and doors fettling any bad areas,

Respray.

re-fit engine and then the jobs a good un.

It wouldn't get done overnight, but realistically it would be more time than expense for anyone that wanted to tackle this.

Ideally there would be someone out there that would be looking for an interesting shell/car with the right bits fitted to give them that head start into building what this car once was, if you could get that person to see this ad it would be worth more than breaking the car, or selling at a low price.

Hot off the press news, The rear axle is a standard Manta axle with a Quaife 4.4 ratio LSD and a special Alloy torque tube plus uprated/strengthened halfshafts to take the V8 power.

Sorry lads I just traced the history back 20 years :(

@mantasme, Thank you for your input, That picture of Gary on your web site, is that on a SS or autocross circuit ? out of all the Escort BDA's that I have come across theres only one BDA that my Manta hasn't beaten, that one is owned by a fabulous little welsh driver called Malcolm Davies.

@opel2000, Thank you also for your input, I'm not interested in selling the car bit by bit, It will be sold as a whole, I agree with you that there is someone out there whom wants a project car and I feel this one would be a very good starter car, with a lot of marriage busting hobby hours spent and under a couple of grand she could be an awesome beauty, I hope this happens :) Though if someone just wants her for her bits so be it.

Its from a special stage around Pickering showground on the Malton Forest rally several years back when he still had his 1600 BDA in her. Its now a 2.0 BD with sequential box and goes a bit better :D

So with the bad and the good on display, the 1st person whom offers me £1500 can come and take her away. I'll leave it on here for the genuine enthusiast to maybe purchase till the 9th March, then I'll go further afield to try my luck.

Thanks to everyone for their knowledgeable input on this matter.
