davo
is the ecotec version of the16v the same engine as the redtops found in cavs & astras if not what are the differences? does it give the same power /is it just more fuel efficent? thanks in advance
blitzi
its 150 bhp in the ecotec but you cany tune them like the redtop i have one in manta and think its sufficent!!
mantasrme
I thought the ecotec was less than the XE's 150 The ecotec has a different manifold and injection wiring loom etc, also the late Ecotecs had a built in immobiliser so you need the ignition key/receiver aswell as the loom
blitzi
well i think its 147bhp but its more than ample for manta mines is from a 1995 cavalier so no need for ignition sys also running standard injection its also a lot cheaper to purchase than the redtop ie less than half the price!! spiney_norman
Ecotecs are 136bhp IIRC.
mantadoc
Ecotecs are 136bhp IIRC. True (But I bet most Redtops have lost more that 14 BHP in the last 24 years)
monzta
If you scrap the electronics and go double carb instead you will get the same powergains from a Ecotech as a XE, but you will have a 10-15+ year newer engine
