can anyone tell me how many turns does it take a std manta b to go from lock to lock?

i'm trying to identify a rack i have but it only takes 3 full turns to do the above whilst off the car

are there any limiters on the rack when fitted to the car?

many thanks in advance

Andy

Yeah there are limiters on the uprights, so the turns while off the car is always more than when on the car.

Standard mante GT/e rack is 3.5 turns lock to lock some of the earlier mk1 cavalier racks had 4.5 turns i think.

If its got 3 turns off the car its probaly a 2.5 turns quickrack

Interesting, never knew that. Does go some way toward explaining why the steering on my '77 Cav coupe's always felt really light compared to the later Mantas I've driven.

Another easy way of I.D.ing a quickrack is what type of shaft comes out of the rack.

The standard manta is a spline very close to the rack then that flexy rubber U/J.

Most quickracks have a longer 3/4" DD shaft sticking out (same shape as the intermediate shaft between rack and bulkhead) which then requires a second U/J the same as the upper one.

I should point out not all quickracks have this type of end but I'd say 95% of the ones I've come across do. So if it's got a 3/4"DD then it's more than likely a quick one.

Oh and I might know of a buyer, how much do you want for it?
