manta400john
I'd hazard a guess at 7 degrees, but don't have info to hand. Retarded 3 degrees from standard rings a bell. John.
cam.in.head
an 86 will be unleaded unless its had an earlier head fitted.yours should have P2E stamped on the side to be sure. The standard timing marks on the pulley & timing case relate to using 4 star.(97 octane)set it to this as a basic setting & then you are supposed to retard it by 5 degrees if using 95 octane unleaded but some experimenting is necesarry depending on the condition of the engine & the type of unleaded you are using.if you use super unleaded, the high octane stuff then you should be ok on the 4 star settings. Gedly
Hi thanks for getting back to me. The head says XR2E which I have been told means it's not unleaded ready. So what should I set the timing to? Thanks.
cam.in.head
i would set it to the factory marks & then retard it a further 5 degrees. it realy is a case of experimentation to get the best setting .i have set mine & then backed it off a little at a time until no pinking is evident.
