Kevin Abbott Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Do you mean shocks? If so Retropower do a full kit of billys
andy.gte.400 Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 no not the shocks, we are using proflex 3 way, my dad calls them uprights its what all the front suspension is connected to. i cant think of what other people call them lol
Kevin Abbott Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Take a pic and post it up ( not of your Dad though )
andy.gte.400 Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 lol! ok then, got some sierra uprights here we were going to use but a ball joint doesnt fit (i do the manually labour, he does the technical!!) so will take a pic of them tomorrow. thanks
jasper Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Is it the front stub axlesyou are meaning? If so there was someone from belgium who was selling them also did seperate steering arms made from some special steel/alloy. Hugely expensive steering arms were £400 a pair uprights can`t remember but they were alot. The guy used to advertise on rally cars for sale.net. Sorry can`t be of more help long time ago snce I saw the adverts.
andy.gte.400 Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 yeah stub axles i think. ill look for this belgium lad now cheers. is there a car that i can get some off that are a straight swap for the manta ones and are a it bigger/stronger?
Retro Power Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Have you bent a standard upright? They are bloody strong!! You will wreck even reinforced standard wishbones before the upright bends. Most of the other parts fail before the upright itself. It's probably possible to bend the tip of the spindle (never seen it on a manta but have on nova rear, which uses same bearings, when we rolled my mate's nova, but that was a 70+mph barrel roll on a forest stage!!) It's pretty easy to gain a bit of extra strength on the steering arm and even (though not done this) the upper balljoint section by welding reinforcing gussets in, (they are forged steel, not cast as some people will suggest) I presume when you mention sierra uprights you mean group A alloy ones? The standard sierra ones are rubbish compared to a manta one, they are cast iron, and very heavy!
Retro Power Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 (edited) PS re. steering arms for £400 a pair you'd get some CNC machined in Titanium, whoever was asking that much was pulling somebody's pants down!! Edited October 8, 2012 by Retro Power

Retro Power Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) Yep, got some standard ones, "should" have some gte ones, will have a look. What are you doing steering wise, is it normal rack or are your rose jointing the trackrod ends? Only ask as the GTE ones have the steering arm hole drilled nearer the steering axis, but if you are going for a rose jointed setup then you'd be modifying the arm anyway so wouldn't be a problem which uprights you had. In the old pic of the car in the projects section there is a pic of it with the front end off. If it's running at that very low ride height then there are quite a few mods to make to improve handling. When you get to the stage of looking at all the suspension give us a shout Edited October 9, 2012 by Retro Power

dtm Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Yes i was looking at the pic of front of that manta where the front panel was off. The manta is too low. The car would run alot better on higher ride height because of the angle of the wishbone setup. Would you not convert the whole front cross member and suspension set up to, lets say, a bmw e30 adjustable suspension where camber, castor and ride height height can be adjusted much more easily? Plus, this way, alot of uprated parts are much more easily got and also at a fraction of the cost? Savage manta btw
andy.gte.400 Posted October 15, 2012 Author Posted October 15, 2012 i dont think we are running it that low, we cut the floor out and raised it up 3 inches to slam it lol. lowest manta in the world ?!
