Mk1 Carlton Estate (Facelift) Project: Anyone Breaking Mk1 Carlton Or Has Spare Parts?

Hi guys

I need your help sourcing some parts for my '84 Carlton 1.8 estate.

Now I've got a great little Nova daily driver it's time to sort the old girl out so I'm taking her off the road in order to do her up.

Here's some pics as she is at present:

There are rust scabs on some of the lower door skins and the lower rear
quarter panels have been treated to some fibreglass filler by a previous
owner.

The front wings are pattern replacements and aren't the best fit to be honest.

The rear tailgate has some scabs around the bottom edge of the glass.

The front shock turrets have been patched so they're solid if a little unsightly.

Also, a previous owner has lowered the car by cutting down the springs.

I'm plucking up the courage to have more of a prod with the screwdriver
so I'm hoping there's no nasty surprises but I'll be lucky if the area
around the front turrets and inner wings don't reveal more rust issues
as this is a notorious problem area eek.gif

The car has done around 90,000 miles believed to be genuine judging by
the wealth of history that came with the car. Therefore the motor,
running gear and interior are all in pretty good nick. There is a slight
tear to the drivers seat backrest which is a shame. Also the heater fan
control switch is broken (at present the heater fan is switched on via a
hidden rocker switch) so I'm on the hunt for one of those.

The car has been lowered by a previous owner by cutting down the coil
springs, so that needs putting right as I want to keep the car original.

This list is sure to grow, but for now if anyone has the following parts
(or has any leads), I'd really appreciate hearing from you:

1) Genuine used (or new?) front wings

2) Tailgate

3) Good used front and rear doors

4) Door window rubbers

5) Rear lower quarter panels

6) Driver's door check rod

7) Driver's seat in grey herringbone pattern

8) Front plastic grill

9) Rear load area carpet (black)

10) Rear load area card panels (grey)

11) Front turret panels (hysterical.gif)

12) Heater fan control (complete dash panel section in black)

13) Spare glass (particularly back window and rear side glass)

14) Chrome plastic insert trim for windcreen and back window rubbers

15) Front and rear springs so I can get her back to her original ride height.

Thanks for looking and I hope to hear from lots of people with parts for sale :thumbup

I like how the nova and the manta have the same last 3 digits.
Well spotted. Both these cars were picked up in the Stourbridge area. Both low mileage beauties. These two old birds never flew far from the nest it would seem.

Nice to see her getting the love she deserves. It was a shame what the previous owner to me did, cutting the springs for "scene points". I do miss this car. If you ever get chance, google the first owners name. Its quite interesting! Have a word with spineynorman, hes usually got carlton/rekord parts knocking around!

Thanks Sutty

The old girl needs sorting now before she deteriorates. Not that shes's in a particularly bad shape at present, but if left then things could get bad. Not looking forward to taking a look around the inner front wing reinforcement sections and turrets though as there could be some horrors to be found :o .

Then again, i might be lucky. ^_^

I'll pm spinynorman to see if he can help.

Any advice on cross compatibility of other models parts with the mk1 Carlton would be very much appreciated sir. I have had confirmation from a chap on the senator section of the VODC forum that senator A front doors should fit. I know that the rear Carlton estate doors are different from the rear doors on the carlton saloon - maybe its just the top window frame shape that is different?

Here's a link to a German eBay listing for a rear Carlton mk1 estate door with reference pics.

I'll get some pics of my doors to post up too. Thanks for your help.

They look VERY similar to me.

perhaps the vertical window channel which forms the 'quarter light' is a little further forward - difficult to tell from the pics though. Have you got any better pics of senator A rear doors which are 'face on'?

I've had a word with entwistlecymru, our local Carlton guru, he tells me all four doors are the same on a Senator A as a Carlton estate. I won't be back at my Dad's til Sunday, but I'll try and get all his Senator doors together then and let you know what's available!

Thanks fella. I might be able to get over your way on Sunday arvo/early evening as I'm in Hereford anyway. Could bring the tyres and grab the doors but depends on your plans.

Hi Colin

Seems as though the senator A rear doors will fit the Carlton estate going by the above comment, but great idea to contact Andy C to double, triple check.

Not sure what time I'll finish work on Sunday in Hereford but likely to be mid afternoon. Which means I could be with you late afternoon if that works. Where in S Wales are you exactly?
