Atlantean Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Today I set about changing the upper wishbone bushes on my Manta B but stumbled at the first hurdle! The bolts have been fitted from the back to the front with the nut fitted on the front of the wishbone so I am unable to remove the bolt as there is only about 50mm clearance between the bolt and the chassis leg at the rear of the wishbone! I will have to cut the bolt off and so I will need a new one to replace it. Has anyone got any spare bolts? I could do with 2 as both of mine will have to be cut off!
andyc Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) I know its a bit more work but it might be better to support the engine from above and then drop the front axel down. Then you can do the bush sway and put the bolt back the otherway round OE bolts are hard to find so it may be a trip to local nut and bolt shop Cheers Andy Edited June 20, 2013 by andyc
Atlantean Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 That was an option I considered Andy but if I could get the bolts it would save a lot of work! I have also considered going to my local engineering workshop and getting some bolts made
TJM Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 If they are the same length as the Kadett C/Chevette then I can supply for £21.90 a pair with nut. P&P £6.50 to UK Mainland. Regards Tim
paulmanta Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Don't cut them, they are hard to get hold of and if you get new ones you need to be very sure you get the right strength and spec. They are quite unusual with the short threads and long shoulders.
Atlantean Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 I can find out Tim if they are the same — something tells me they are different though! I'll let you know I won't cut them Paul until I know I have a plan of action. I may very well end up dropping the lot but I really do not want to go down that road. God only knows what sort of a can of worms I might open
Atlantean Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 I think I have this sorted — getting a set of new OE bolts from Germany
robah Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I think I have this sorted — getting a set of new OE bolts from Germany Nice one for you mate , are they from a company in mass supply or just someone selling some spare ones?
Ems Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I've just had some delivered from edelschmiede.com, he has most of the bolts for the wishbones, etc in stock
