Rear Bumper Widths

Does any one know if there is a difference in width between hatches and coupes- I'm trying to find out if a coupes exclusive rear bumper will fit a hatch. Many thanks.

I'm sure this has come up before, seem to remember the bumpers themselves were the same but the mounts on the corners were slightly different?

Thanks mate, I'm happy to have to mess about with the mounts, it was just if the overall width was different. I picked up a black infill panel (between the rear lights on exclusives) and it appears to be about an inch short on my hatch and this rang alarm bells. Thanks again.

I know on the standard bumpers there is a slight difference to the shape of the bumper. When viewed from above the hatch has a slight curve to it, while the coupe bumper is straight

The hatch rear bumper is wider than than the coupe, on standard bumpers you can tell them apart if you look under the ends there is a small cutout in the hatch rear bumper to get to the bolt that holds it on the bracket on the hatch rear quarter. not sure what visual differences there are between exclusive rear bumpers, you'll need measurements.

The coupe is definatley wider than the hatch!

I have a hatch bumper and it is too narrow for the coupe.( I took it off the donor car myself)

If you have a coupe bumper and infill and need one for the hatch how do you fancy a swap??

The infill panel is slightly longer on the hatch coupe ones are smaller, I have a hatch one available if you wanted the correct one?

Thanks for all the replies folks. I've just received the bumper today and with an initial mess about with it, it isn't looking right. it just seems to be the wrong shape and wrong profile on the corners and the mounting points seem to low. 83GTE and I met up this evening and a fair swap was concluded.

What we can confirm re bumper is:-

Both coupe and hatch bumpers are same length but definatly different!!

The difference is in the way the bumper twists as it turns round to the fixing points on the rear quarters. This comes from the fact that the hatch is wider at the rear lights but same at the bumper fix level so the angle of the rear quarter between these levels is different! Any way as a result of the swap we both now ave bumpers that fit like gloves!!

If you don't get the explanation don't worry.............simply put coupe and hatch bumpers are not the same !!
