R1 carbs plus a cavalier 1600 8 valve mechanical dizzy recurved to suit the xe. carbs need jets drilling. I have that setup on an xe of my own (I didn't do it, I bought the car that way) and to be fair it makes 210hp flywheel and has a great torque curve. Was set up by Russ Lyons at Torque Tune.

I would always go for throttle bodies and aftermarket ecu if I were planning the job.

Using the motronic for ignition seems a bit of a bodge. It would technically work I'm sure, but no idea what timing it would run as it would need the airflow input etc, almost certainly would be in limp mode at best.

ive got a nodiz unit to do the sparks with , programable maps, bluetooth , uses gm sensors and the tps from the bike carbs , you can add manfold pressure and air temp sensors also .

i havent heard of using the standard ecu for spark ...it might not be perfect the way it is as you cant change the advance to suit carbs .
