opelmantagsi Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) thought i would share my experience of modifying and recovering a dash in a Manta B. Spec is generally driven by the removal of the factory ventilation system and replacing with a micro heater which is dedicated to the screen vents and a requirement to fit a remote brake bias adjuster. This dash had a serious crack through the center speaker and looked absolutely terrible I would love to have Retropower undertake a similar custom dash for me but for it to be flocked, however this will need to do for now The surface must be thoroughly cleaned with prepsol and I only use windscreen bonding when applying the flexible / pliable auto trimmers fabric (contact adhesive is no good as it soaks through and is not black) There are other options, I chose to do this one as it was the easiest one for me in NZ. Everyone has an opinion on this subject, I am only posting this to share my experience after finding it very hard to find any decent information I hope this helps anyone thinking about undertaking a similar mini project and simply needing to see what can be done. As its being fitted in the car I will use a scalpel to open up the dash vents and bias adjuster hole Edited February 6, 2014 by opelmantagsi 1 Quote
tony g Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Good work there. Nice to see a dash recovered. Could that be done with a vinyl like seat material too? Just thinking of how pliable vinyl would be... Tony Quote
opelmantagsi Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 Yeah I have seen one done in vinyl but that was done in a number of pieces and sewn with the mother of all sewing machines. Quote
