tony g Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Royale is 5x120 same as commodore (and bmw) Tony Quote
mikemanta Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 nope the royale uses front struts on the suspension and has an independent rear suspension set up. The commodore has double front wishbone front suspension and a live rear axle. Quote
yeti132 Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 Thanks for the help tony g & mike manta there is a royale for sale on classic Vauxhall 2.8 if anyone is intrested Quote
mantadoc Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 nope the royale uses front struts on the suspension and has an independent rear suspension set up. The commodore has double front wishbone front suspension and a live rear axle. This is incorrect, I have some Royale 5 stud half shafts, older ones had live axles, very similar to the old Carlton live axle in its mounting method. Also I believe found on ancient Monza and Senator Quote
mikemanta Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 are you sure it wasn't the Vauxhall viceroy this had a live axle with five stud hubs, same car as the commodore C Quote
spiney_norman Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Yep, never was a live rear axle on a Senator, Monza or Royale. May have been sold to you as such but more likely to be Viceroy or Commodore. I scrapped a '78 Senator last year, one of the very first handful to come into the country, and that was an IRS setup. Quote

Interesting, but the source of the axle had been breaking Opels for 40 or 50 years so I would trust their word.........plus I have seen a live axle under a large Opel badged 2 door coupe (not commodore) in transplants 25 years ago which I always thought was a Monza but doubted myself as not seen a live axled one since, but the larger commodore coupes had no B pillar and this did.......course maybe my axle was just labelled wrong Quote
