opel2000
I just saw a topic on here about stainless steel fasteners or rather Bolts being used on the Manta. On the CiH I always used them on the exhaust downpipes to manifold, and always used them on thermostat housings on the cih and the ohc and dohc. Had so many steel bolts break in these areas in the past and years of messing about on these cars shown me that this was a good decision even though the chemistry behind it is not good. Never used them to replace high tensile bolts, but I used to polish the heads up and use them everywhere else I could in the engine bay...... Julian
I showed that photo to a main Renault dealer, who has somewhere in the region of 500 cars in stock, not all Renault, I asked him " can you produce a better photo than this?" His answer was "F*****ng hell, no way", I said what about the new cars? his answer to that was you can't even see the engines on them By the way what happened to all those birds Rab used to have draped all over the cars? mantadoc
Since I put stainless bolts in the exhaust manifold I have one of the few manifolds carrying all 6 to downpipe and the same manifold has been with me 23 years now from car to car. Exclusive Opel
I have stainless bolts on my manifold as well, with spring washers, and as mantadoc says, all six! Re-drilled and tapped to M10 though.
