mantaray
Trying to fit R25 box into my A, but having problems with space and may need to go back to an 1.8 box. I think the one I had, was used in the Hatch I've just sold. Just wondering whats about and how I'm looking in todays market. I have 2 1.8 boxes but they are both locked solid, and I'm thinking it is probably cheaper to get another one, than have mine rebuilt.
upk
If you have a 2.0 box can you not swop the internals into the 1.8 casing??? 2.0 may be easier to come by if you can. Edited April 20, 2016 by upk
mantaray
yes that would be possible, but it's the cost, it is not a job I can do myself, so would need to send it out to a gearbox company. Depending on cost and availability of a second hand box, I will need to see which is going to be the better option.
Snowy
Would you be willing to sell one of your locked gearboxes? Thanks

robah
Hi Chris, not sure if this will help but I have this link to Getrag 240 Gearbox if you decide to look at sourcing the parts. I know this is a BMW site but it's the same gearbox internals. I have a similar problem with my other gearbox and will look to fix it in the near future. Gearboxes are not that hard to fix but you really need a hydraulic press to assist.
upk
Mazda rx8 6 speed with adapt or plate and change to hydraulic clutch?
mantaray
1.8 is the quickest option if I can't get the R25 to fit. Just want to get the car on the road again at the moment. Will look at other options at a later date. The 1800 box was fine, until I broke the sincro on 2nd drag racing.
