Automatic Tranmission in manta 1.8

Hi Aditi,

I've always used Dexron 2 in my Mantas - recommended by an engineer who used to sell Manta's back in the 80s.

I would recommend that you also change the gearbox filter cartridge and the oil pan gasket while you are at it.  Expect to use around 3.4 litres to re-fill.

When checking the level of the oil, the distance between the "add" and the "full" mark on the dipstick is 0.56 litres.

When the engine is at full operating temperature, the oil level should read as "Full" against the dipstick. Avoid over-filling!

Hi Aditi,

As requested, here are a couple of photos of the front and back of the auto gearbox filter cartridge.  If you are searching on line, I believe that the same cartridge is fitted to the Rover SD1 (not sure if you'll have many of those rattling around in Israel but you may be able to track on e down on E-bay.  You need to look for the filter for a GM180 transmission.

Good luck!
