Hi just bumping this thread looking for a bit of help on the handbrake cable.

Has anybody worked out which is the best Astra cable to use? I have both the 1599mm and the 1590mm long one and both seem way too long on the Manta.

The only other Astra G cable I can see is 1250mm long but is list for drum brakes not discs. Thinking it will be easier to lengthen the threaded rod rather than shorten a cable

Any advice help welcome please

Thanks

Think I used standard Manta handbrake cable, but zafira calipers, and slightly different placement (9 o clock) and lengthened the rod, just with a threaded hex block, lock nutted both ends.

Also fitted hydro handbrake. 😜

Sorry only just seen this. I’ve gone for the 1250mm Astra G drum brake cable, and having done a dummy fit I am planning to extend the rod on the handbrake lever as you suggested.

Thanks

Interested in a set of these. Any part numbers or Web links for the calipers and discs needed? Thanks

I used Astra G calipers and discs, bought from autodoc.co.uk

Calipers from TRW, they do a full axle kit part number CKQ101, which includes brackets

Discs were Febi Bilstein part number 17212

You then need a flexible brake hose to connect the caliper and banjo fitting  and a M10x1.5 banjo bolt for each caliper. I actually ran stainless braided brake line from the T piece on the differential to each caliper, rather than joining part way along the axle. Custom brake hoses made by BRT Motorsport

Last time i fitted a set to an axle i used standard astra rear flexies, so they are easy to get/ replace down the line. Then made little tabs that i welded to the axle for the end stops, fitted with the VW style sprung clip.

Ant see , but what’s the adapter plate?

I used the Mantasport brackets from mantasrme.

Got to finish the handbrake cable over the weekend.

As previously discussed there are lots of handbrake cables for the Astra G disc brake callipers. I tried the 1599mm, a 1596mm and a 1590mm long ones and found them all too long  and the yoke went past the handbrake lever.

There is also a drum braked version of the Astra G which has a short cable at 1254mm, without the extension pieces that fit inside the drum.

I gave this a go from Eurocar Parts as it was a Sunday and I need it quickly, you can also get them from Autodoc for a little as £19.image.png.3acd76b031eb21cc9b7c94499df2056e.png

To make it fit I cut a slot in the crimped end of the cable casing so that an E clip would hold it in the calliper bracket.

To connect to the standard Manta handbrake lever I made a 210mm extension like Evo03, with M8 threaded rod, using a M8x25mm long nut to connect to the handbrake lever, and made a spacer for the yolk out of 12mm bar with a 8.6mm clearance hole drilled through it (all from Ebay)

All connected and tightened I'm getting 5 clicks on the handbrake lever to full handbrake and wheels locked. I also didn't need to make any end stops for the cable, and found the cable clips nicely into the standard brackets on the axle tie rods (I have cable tied these in place for security)

All in all a pretty simple conversion once you have the calliper brackets from Mantasport.

Sorry no idea why the last 2 pictures are upside down, but can't seem to get them the right way up🤔

Very nice set up...I am currently looking at a rework of my rear discs to fit 5 stud Commodore half shafts. Have sourced BMW Z4 300mm x 22mm vented discs (up from existing 272mm x 20mm) which just about fit my existing Escort Cosworth calipers or may use TRW Jag X350 ones. The discs have the correct 120mm stud spacing, but need to source a spigot spacer 79mm OD and 70mm ID x 5mm thick to centralise the disc...and a new caliper mounting bracket to cater for the larger disc.

Existing set up...

Jag caliper being considered..
