Sutty2006 Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 It is with deep regret that I am putting my Opel Rekord up for sale. Too many projects and not enough time/money for them all. 12 months MOT For those of you that dont know the car, I bought it as a rolling shell in 2014. The engine, gearbox, wiring loom, radiator, fuel tank and pump plus more was missing. I sourced a genuine 2.2 injection engine, a Manta 5 speed gearbox and the rest of the parts came from all over the UK. 73800 miles. MOT till end of october. I MOT'd it then put it straight into storage. Its not been anywhere since. Some areas of body work were repaired, A pillar by windscreen, sills, a patch in the o/s/r door, front valance plus more. Paintwork was matched brilliantly but the prepwork must have been crap as there are areas that have boubled up (roof and rear arches) Engine. New timing chain kit and water pump. New plugs, leads, oil and filter. Engine oil has been changed again since going back on the road. Correct 2.2 flywheel was blasted and skimmed, and a NOS clutch kit fitted. New clutch cable. Radiator was sourced but required reconditioning so is as new. Rear axle is an estate axle (slightly wider) with new diff pinion bearings and a new o/s/r wheel bearing. Fresh diff oil. New front disks and pads, new drums and shoes on the rear. New rear shock absorbers and 1x new spring New front ARB links New heater matrix Cd Player fitted with new speakers in the dash. New chrome screen trim front and back. 4x new tyres New old stock fuel tank sourced then hit with a few coats of hammerite black. The list goes on and on. Ive used new parts where ever possible. Electric windows, electric mirrors, central locking, power steering, electric boot release, trip computor.... all in good working order. The interior is in very good condition. Runs and drives superb.... must be driven to appreciate. Needs minor fettling to make mint. Interior light doesnt work, fan blower motor is seized (second one thats seized, must be common) and the rear arches could do with sorting sooner rather than later. Ive already put well over £4000 into the restoration so making a loss as it stands. Any questions please ask. Located in Stoke on Trent. £1995 2 Quote

Sutty2006 Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 I'll knock a tenner off for the right buyer lol. Really struggling to sell this, had zero interest. Had it been a C reg Granada in the same condition I'd have tripled that price and sold it ten times over Quote

Just trying to decide if I can fit another one on the drive. Quote
TheRealExile Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Agree it's a cool car, I'd love that for a day to day driver. Opting out of works car scheme but mine doesn't finish til June, I don't really go far these days as I try get the train for the longer trips down south, Nelson or Manchester and back a few times a month that's it really. Sutty2006 Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 I had originally bought it as a long term project, finding the parts took 12 months as it had been pilaged for manta parts (engine, box, injection system). I toyed with fitting a more modern engine out of an omega, a Redtop or something like that but wanted to keep it original. I stopped counting the cost at 4 GRAND because I knew that if I didnt keep spending, it would never get finished. I used it for a daily driver for a bit, and occasionally still do, it really does drive mint. Ive SORN'd it now, as last month I taxed 6 cars so some have come off the road including my Yank.. If a fellow forum member has it, they can have all the spares to go with it. Would rather see someone enjoy it than it sit in my garage for another 12 months. In the Test station on Friday. 3 advisorys, panhard bush perished, and 2 axle bushes perished but no play in any of it. Quote
