Large drum backplates

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a pair of early Manta B/C drum backplates with manual adjusters that haven't seized?

Thanks

Are you only after a pair as the adjusters had seized?

If so, I found that getting them cherry red with a blowtorch had mine moving in no time - and my car had been sitting dormant for about 19 years...

Good luck either way!

Yes, they've seized been sitting in the shed for about 20 years.  I'm changing back from discs as the handbrake mechs seize through lack of use.

Understood.

I heated them with a blowtorch, then cooled quickly with a water sprayer - alternate with more heat, more water etc - you get the picture...

The shock of the heat and rapid cooling will cause them to give up the fight pretty quickly.

Hope that helps!

I used plenty of penetrating oil on them, front and back and kept applying for about a week. Some gentle persuasion with an FBH and they were spinning round like a good un.

I have the full set up here after converting to discs if you're still looking?
