Hello Wayne, welcome to the forum. The Manta A bay will take a Rover V8 with mods to bulkhead...so plenty room for a shorter V6 (Essex 3.0/or later 2.8).....not sure if anyone in the UK has done this conversion, mostly because we don't like Fords much! and we have other engine options....

Check the height of it. The A engine bay is nice and wide but you dont have a great deal of height and that looks to be quite tall on top?

Don't even consider the Chevy 153 cu in engine. This w used in SA in the Chevair - essentially a Cavalier but badged as a Chev.  They wer very nose heavy and the front suspensions sagged under the weight after a while.  This engine is simple and reliable but is extremely heavy and a lugger rather than a free revving unit - in short, best used as an anchor.

Aside from the Ford issue, the Essex V6 is another very heavy engine.
