Silver 83Y 1.8S Berlinetta Hatch for sale 40K miles £8995

Recommended Posts

Shame there is only one pic as the car looks good.

Failed the MOT in September 2020 on what looks like swan neck chassis corrosion both sides, wouldn't surprise me if its not too bad but will need sorting & a new MOT would not give me total confidence unless it was up on a ramp & i could inspect it.

In spite of that i think as a trade sale & with the offer of a 3 month warranty if the mileage is genuine then it seems a fair price.

Was previously advertised for sale a couple of years back:

YPK988Y Opel Manta

We are pleased to offer this 'Quite Rare' Opel Manta Berlinetta S. Brody was born in 1983 as a 1796cc hatchback dressed in his original & elegant Brilliant Silver coat complimented with unmarked grey velour recaro 'GTE' interior trim. He comes with the original Manta alloy wheels with virtually new tyres all round. Lovingly cared for by his previous custodian for the last 7 years during which time he underwent a light & sympathetic restoration to his former glory. Showing what appears to be a genuine 40k miles on the clock but please make your own enquiries as to this. Unbelievably over thirty six years young this 1980's 'Bird Puller' turns many heads as they are a rare sight on our roads today. Brody is presented with an MOT until October 2019 with no advisories. FULL MOT AVAILABLE IF REQUIRED FOR SMALL CHARGE.

I've enquired about this car and asked for an estimate for the repairs as to be honest I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking at. I don't suppose anyone knowledgeable is local to this car and wouldn't mind taking a look? I'd pay for their time obviously. Failing that does anyone know of a specialist that would be able to look at it for me.

Thanks.

I emailed the seller a couple of days back asking for more photos and if the last MOT corrosion failures have been seen to, but as yet have heard nothing back.

It does look very nice and the GTE interior is definately a plus point in its favour albeit not OEM.

The seller got back to me pretty quickly to be fair, although didn't show any pictures of the actual rust areas just nice shiny paint. He said he'll get his technician to look at it to give me a rough idea of an estimate towards cost of fixing it but obviously an impartial inspection would be desirable.

I would post the photos here but I've no idea how! 😂

If you hit reply, there's a 'choose files' at the bottom. Just add the photos from your PC or whatever. Failing that, add links to Flickr or similar if you use it.

Just had a reply with additional photos. Like you, nothing too detailed. He tells me it is sold as seen (ie. needs the corrosion issues sorting). Also told me that the client he's selling it on behalf of, would accept £6250.

Hi those are the same pictures he sent to me, he did mention the seller would accept £6250 to me also. Maybe I'm being paranoid but something seems a little off to me everything seems a bit vague, maybe because he's selling it for someone else or maybe he is the worlds most reluctant car dealer 😂

It appears the garage/showroom is a Landrover specialist and is selling the car on behalf of a customer or friend. It's not unusual TBH, and suspect they know next to nothing about the car apart from having it parked in their showroom. A Saab specialist I used to use in Tonbridge Wells did exactly the same. No doubt they get some sort of % as commission.
