cam.in.head
itsounds like either a problem with the ignition switch or where it plugs into the connector half way down the steering column. or a dashboard /instrument earthing issue. doesnt sound like anything to do with the actual alternator itself.(or even the other one !) find out why the dashboard isnt going live first(oil lamp, ign lamp, handbrake lamp, fuelguage, temp guage) should all come on. ANDY ABBOTT
Do you have your alternator earthed ?
Malcolm Cliff
Yes,took dash out and found nothing wrong, put it all back and all working now.
cam.in.head
ah thats good. suggests it was a bad connection on the dash plug then. alternator will no doubt be working fine now as well . if it happens again make sure all pins are a good fit in the socket and pushed right in. 611
My A series did that and it was the white plastic plug on the back of the dash, i made sure all terminals fitted the pins tight and problem solved!
