Dashboard lights

Hi All

Is the Opel Manta A dashboard supposed to be illuminated? If so, how do I replace the bulbs?

My dashboard is pitch black at night and I am trying to understand if there are lights/bulbs somewhere that need replacing.

Thank you

I have a spare dash if you want me to take a pic? they push in from the back and there are about 6 i think from memory. But as @1900sr said check the main light switch to check that is working as the bulbs are a bit of a pain to change behind the dash with it in unless you take it out but that means speedo cable off etc..

The dash lights can be turned off by rotating the light switch, so make sure that's not the problem first.

That was it. I rotated clock wise and the dash lights went on! Thank you

I fixed it following 1900sr advice. Do you happen to have a left side mirror and one of these in the link too??

I have 2 mirrors, one is good one needs fixing. I will check what i have. When you say left do you mean UK passenger side?

Yes i have the heater housing, its slightly modified as i had a fan fitted (see link) but when i swapped to injection i didn't need it so took it out and put in another i had.

Ok, mirrors.

As you can see i have a matching pair. The are both in good condition but as you can see from the second pic the right (UK drivers) one the bracket is lose and the mirror wont stay in place. but the left side is fine.

Here is a link with the full size images

https://www.theopelproject.com/heater-housing/

as you can see i added a partition and fan to the left, this was so i could vent under bonnet heat up through the bonnet vent without any engine fumes getting into the heater vent.

Its in good condition with all the locating holes in place and nothing broken. The light housing is intact and i think i even have a switch somewhere!

I only removed it from mine as now i run injection instead of twin cards so don't get the same kind of heat in the engine bay now so decided to swap it for another one i had.

Hi Andy, I notice these mirrors' shape is rectangular. The one I have is round. Which one is the original shape of the Manta A?

Re the heater housing, is it in the UK currently? Do you also have the rubber which wraps it around?

Thank you

Most seem to have the rectangular mirrors in the sales brochures but some do have the round.

Yes the heater housing is in the UK and no i dont have the rubber strip, the stuff i had went hard and then the bonnet never seals properly so when i changed the heater housing i got some new stuff from Dr Manta. Its just like the original but the bonnet seals properly now 🙂

You can see it here where im fitting the new stuff.
