Kr1s Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Hi All Unsurprisingly it seems the exhaust on my 1980 2.0 coupe needs replacing. After looking through various posts and at what's available I'm happy to go with Sportex - just wondered whether anyone could confirm that all for a 2.0 would be compatible, i.e. no difference between the early 2.0 like mine with the carburetor and 4 speed gearbox, and the later GTE. Many thanks Chris Quote
Jessopia74 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Only on the downpipes to manifold size, system post downpipe is the same Quote
Kr1s Posted February 3 Author Posted February 3 Ah, this was the bit I was concerned about though as I was planning to order the system including down pipes - it's sounds like I need to double check with them that I'm getting the right one. Thanks! 1 Quote
Jessopia74 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 You could also fit the GTE exhaust manifold, it just does not interface (hot plate) with the inlet, but I never had any issues sacking that off anyway. Stopped the carb getting too hot in UK temps. 1 Quote
cam.in.head Posted February 4 Posted February 4 mine has a gte manifold instead of the carb manifold and it's the same down pipe fitting gasket ? were SOME gte's fitted using the carlton manifold ?? the carlton one is shorter and a bit fatter 1 Quote

See this thread, should help identification 1 Quote
cam.in.head Posted February 5 Posted February 5 yes this is what i meant . the gte gasket is the same as a carb manifold . was just commenting on where it was mentioned that the systems were the same post manifold . the other smaller gasket is carlton 1 1 Quote

I'm trying to get hold of them by phone to see whether they can tell me the bolt hole centre spacings so that I can check whether it matches mine as mine differ from some of those I've seen on eBay adverts for gaskets apparently for RHD GTEs. cam.in.head Posted February 5 Posted February 5 yes worth asking but every normal rhd cav and manta i've had with a cih engine has had the big gasket and every carlton with the cih has had the shorter one . there is an even smaller gasket of similar appearance but that's for cavs mantas chevette and viva 1256cc 1 Quote
Kr1s Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 (edited) So, the dimensions of my manifold to exhaust flange, and a spare gasket that I was lucky enough to get with the car are like this: Whereas the ones on eBay seem to be like this: Still haven't been able to get an answer from Sportex phone number 😞 If anyone happens to have a GTE one to hand and could tell me their dimensions it would add some confidence, although of course there's no real substitute for confirming the actual dimensions. Maybe in any case I'd better wait until I've got the old one off before ordering anything in case I ruin the manifold and have to replace it anyway! Cheers! Edited Wednesday at 22:32 by Kr1s Quote
®evo03 Posted Thursday at 04:12 Posted Thursday at 04:12 You could try photographing your with a ruler or tape on it, and email them (sportex) 1 Quote
