Hi

This is something I'm thinking I ought to tackle given that existing oil must be over 30 years old.

I think I can get a gasket for the cover plate OK, but ISTR reading something about a spring that flies out when the cover is removed - can anyone confirm or deny this and if this is the case, how is the spring refitted when the cover is replaced?

I've also wondered whether this job can be done using a pump with a tube fed in through the filler hole, but my suspicion is that it wouldn't be possible to feed it down into to the bottom to get all of the old oil out.

Cheers!

yes . if you look at the cover . there is a round convex bit where the spring fits .

undo the bolts to break  the seal and let the oil drain out . then when you finally remove the cover there is a spring AND a ball that  fall out .dont forget to refit them otherwise it will slip out of gears easily !

Maybe it'll be obvious when I do it, but how do I hold the spring and ball in place while put the the cover back on?

Thanks again!

PS: And which order do they go in?!
