upk
Well as promised here are a few pics of my very first Manta project. I have always admired the lines of the A series and have finally been seduced. some of you may recognise this car as it featured in july 2003 practical classsics magazine and as a show history. At this point let me apolagise to the previous owners who gain credit for this acolade because i intend to modify the car with an XE engine. Todate volvo 4 pots have been fitted and Xe has been dry fit. Currently a rollcage is being installed before suspension upgrade and then repaint preperation. More to follow as progress continues. upk
Thats a seriously good looking A series seems a shame to mod it [] Even the rear seat belt brackets have the plastic still in them and thats a place that does rust. Good luck with the project nice to see another A on the forum. These cars are getting seriously popular [^][^] http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep OMOC 5706

upk
Just thought i would give an update on project progress. Slight change in plans. 1. decided to replace the panels instead of repairing 2. in the words of colin chapman " build in lightness" therefore the bumpers have to go! well i finished the plinths for the roll cage ordered all the bits from a very helpfull chap in germany and chopped out the bits i dont wont fit quality of panels is excellant so i now have a couple of hours with a flat disc and joggler before i can weld up and then do it all over again on the other side. I also chopped out the wheel well, so i could repair the rear quarter and save even more weight. more to follow so keep watching!

upk
Help !! only small problem but how do you get the lock mechanism out of the boot? need to remove so my man can crack on with preperation for the paint job. cheers kev
paulmanta
Its clipped in by a bit or shaped thick wire, or it may be screwed in with a collar down the back of the lock barrel from behind, it is an awkward devil to say the least, a thin long flat blade screwdriver is the best tool to use. also look at it with a torch, you will see more. -----People, don't you understand The child needs a helping hand Or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day-----
upk
at last i have finished my manta!id="size6"> only kiddingid="size4">, but this was my baby back in 2000, but then some of you knew that. i have to admit the project pace dropped off alot recently mainly because i have been spending time on my road rally activities and also cos my bodywork man did his back in. Anyway he is fighting fit now so that inspired me to do a little bit. Firstly i fitted the fuel tank in the boot ( thanks Paul) then I fabricated the sub frames and trial fitted my front seats (seats courtesy of Mitsubishi) and at last the bodywork man started, we got rid of the vinyl roof and started to smooth out the fixing holes where th bumpers used to be so , the time has come, must pull my finger out and get on with it cos Robbie and Shug put me to shame with pace of work! Robbie
The car is coming along leaps and bounds I see you have the tank in the boot, its a far better Job done that 3 years ago when building my white V8.
