  1. I have seen one of the messages john recieved and it was down right abusive about how hw had written the advert and what a rubbish car it was. All from a nameless keyboard troll who had started an ebay account just to send it John did invite him to come up and see the car and discuss his issues but he wasn't brave enough As to where they are, i bought the welded shell for a future project i'd like to build for myself (if i can ever finish my current personal project and find some spare time) and the exclusive shell will be for sale again before much longer as it was bought in a job lot with all the manta spares john had amassed

  2. As usual something goes wrong (I think some of the issue was my impatience) anyway a bit of the timing cover has broken off whilst getting the bolts out. luckily I had a random spare casing, so new gaskets and stuff ordered and it’s another job I didn’t plan for. These cars don’t half test me. Is there a cure for this Manta bug illness?

  3. Took the Manta out today for a small shakedown just to see, ofcourse on a private road, oil pressure gauge was reading healthy on the run, volt, temp, tank, revs and speedometer all working. She seemed very responsive to throttle, immediate get up and go when accelerator pressed, overall quite happy so far, still as you would expect from a complete strip down and rebuild spanning four years, there is still some little things to sort out, despite the haunting, high and low revs on idle which I’m trying to resolve what else did I find? the seal in the back of the getrag 240 gearbox to the driveshaft, the one just above the gearbox mount needs replacing as a slight oil leak found there, can anyone point me in the right direction with identifying this seal from edelschmiede as they sell front and back seals, which one do I need? I get used to seeing the Manta in the garage but today seeing her out on the road she looked completely different, I’m looking forward to getting out in her this coming spring 👍

  6. Words can't describe my heartfelt sorrow for the predicament and pain you and your family are going through at the present time. I hadn't read your posts for some time, as I was hoping to sit down and take a long read for inspiration to continue my minor work, in comparison to yours. It is only that I took a look at the last page to understand your plight and distress. Medical (none surgery) procedures and understandings of mental health has come on leaps and bounds since I was diagnosed with a similar illness back in 1994. I know you will have your hands full for the foreseeable future with plenty of ups and downs along the way. I know your son will have to come to terms with this illness, and as long as you are there to listen and understand him, which I know you, will then it will make his recovery and treatment that much easier. I wish I had the knowledge and parenting that was often overlooked back when my diagnoses was realised, I would have recovered a lot earlier and be further down the full recovery road. I suppose that mental health was still a Taboo back then, and for me it is still hard to relate to and express, as I don't seek attention for it, I just prefer progression. I still have issues locked away in small boxes in the back of my mind that open from time to time, but the coping mechanism's that the medical professions have taught me have made it easier for me to ride the waves of emotion over the years, to see the waters are slowly getting calmer. I will never rid myself of the illness, but I can take a lot more control of the situations. Try to ensure your son is part and partial to all ongoing procedure and treatment as this will help his future self and you and your family as well. All the beat and good luck with your families future health, hoping for a brighter future Rob

  9. I think it is down to who you wish to deal with and how you research the seller/buyer. I have a mental list of people on here I trust 100% as I have dealt with them with quick payments/items dealings and everything is as stated. I have on numerous occasions given away items that people are looking for to keep their car on the road. I don't do Farcebook anymore (recently retired it), but I did notice the crap being thrown about by losers/tossers on the Manta related pages. I do have an extensive list of part suppliers and bespoke sellers for the Manta family online that I usually use in the buying of most of my spares for my car and it's configuration. I had issues when I sold my Mk1 Astra GTE as a spares or repairs on their forum, as someone kept saying I would not get my asking price, and I told him I would rather scrap the car rather than give it him for a steal, considering I knew it was worth a lot more than my asking price, from previous sales of cars. I got dead on the button what I asked for from another buyer. I have been in and out of the Manta scene since around 1989 and I know what my parts are worth, I don't suffer fools well, and I have given up on sob stories of "Woe is me" as sometimes you get played by characters. Some people on this site who have helped me out in the past will mostly get items a lot cheaper than the asking price as a favour for their help. Even if they sell them on for a higher price after purchase I am not bothered. I have a few for sales on here and I am as honest as I can be in descriptions, I have stopped running around trying to take pictures from all angles, because I know if anyone is genuine on buying the items they will PM me for pictures. I need a tidy up of what I will have/not need in the summer for my own car and I need space for future none car projects, and general tidy of my properties landscaping. I am in two minds to sell the current none original mould 400R kit fitted to my car at the moment and will need the space to hold this if I keep it for spares. I don't sell on eBay due to the messers and previous experience with eBay selling, and anything I sell Manta related is only advertised on here. I am still not in the right frame of mind to go to the Pub meets as my illness etc. still plagues me. My new shift patterns will also impact my participation in future Pub meets due to the nature of my employment.

  10. hi and welcome. yes the gte distributor and associated gubbins will fit and work. the advance curves are realy designed for a 2 litre with injection but with modern unleaded fuel the standard original settings are wrong now anyway so a bit of trial and error timing wise is always needed. but it will work ,and run,and be reliable . then again a properly set up points system will work too just not as reliable . i suppose this depends on you and also wether insurance allows any mods.

  11. So, white gte exclusive auction finished not long time ago. Last bid was £9100. But the reserve price is £11000 the owner said. Doesn't look expensive in my not professional eye...

  12. You’ve had enough experience to see through the shine 😎 I guess 30+ years on they’re pretty much all going to have some issues. It’s probably difficult for someone who has been going to do it up for 15 years to recognise that it has deteriorated year on year.

  13. Don't throw anything Rob, start something on here, it tends to attract less messers. Get yourself to the pub meet Friday! I had the same issue! i was trolled and had very abusive messages via ebay from somebody who i had never even met or dealt with! turns out the member was/is in the club! I put it down to a mistake as the issues raised were not my parts or cars? Strange world.

  14. I had been trying to do a deal on this car weeks ago. I don't like slagging cars off but the guy thinks its worth £5000 and i can tell you now from the pictures i have seen it isnt worth anywhere near that (not to warrant us restoring it anyway) It needs roof work, arches, lower quarter sections, boot is rough and generally its got issues all over. I never saw the chassis legs but there was a long list of things to sort just off the 15 pictures he sent me.

  15. Yes to sump, but you I am sure the 1.8 and 2.0 cam carrier are interchangeable so you could use one from a 1.8 Manta with front mount dizzy.

  16. I suppose it depends on how desperate/quickly you want to sell the car or parts? I have got to the point that I am scrapping most of my spares due to timewasters and knock down specialists.

  17. Be tempting to avoid Fleabay altogether but not sure carandclassic gets the same amount of views though.

  19. It's this one: https://www.edelschmiede.com/shop/Shaft-seal-ring-rear-cardan-Getrag-240-transmission-Opel-cih Unbolt the propshaft, pull it out the gearbox. Than flip the old seal out with a screwdriver and push the new one in:

  20. Hi everyone, I have rejoined the club after an absence of about five years. I had a manta but sold it about 2014. I bought an ascona in 2011 and had it on the road for that year. Been lying in a mates garage since then but I've done a bit of work on it and hope to have it on the road soon, hence my joining the club again. Norrie.

  21. All new brake components from front to back are now ordered and should be getting collected this week. front axle is now built up and competed. The rear Axle is well in its way. Then it’s strip the engine to a block. Paint and put all the nice new stuff on it.

  22. Aye I've got a video but it's long I'll try to edit it and stick it on here. Also got an incar. That's the 1st I've been out properly so still having teething troubles but it's not far away. Don't get me wrong it's not a show winner but it's solid enough and it's got all the right parts. No the springs are right I'm sure. The thicker springs in the front (more weight). VID_20200110_215009.mp4 Wee moment 😂😂
