  1. Hmm.....how do you remove belts without breaking them? I had to remove a belt & ended up splitting it to remove lol, sure there is a way but I hadn't time & got frustrated....
  2. Hmm....I already have the car up, sitting with two wheels under each wheel to give me clearance, so might try the second method where suspension doesn't get lowered first. Thanks for all your answers though, appreciated.
  3. Evening lads, about to embark on removing a gearbox from a Manta. My local friendly mechanic that usually nips out to my shed to do such dirty jobs for me is on holidays, so I need to do it myself. Any tips or what problems am I likely to encounter? I'm not a mechanic, but have tools so that's a start. Oh the drive shaft is also to be removed.I tried to remove the 19mm bolts accessible from under the bonnet, but cold only remoe the two on the passenger side, I think I may need a really long spanner to remove the third one, near the servo. I currently have the car well jacked up with plenty of space to get under it, but that's as far as I am. Help, please

  5. Found this link to old Ebay adds from 2006-7. Anyone spot theirs? http://www.apgraphx.co.uk/ebay-manta/ This is mine, still have it from then!

  7. Lol, so it does - but it isn't really! Anyone any ideas how to pack it safely for transport? Had a box and packing from a 50" TV that I had hoped to use, but it's a couple of inches too long
  8. Pretty sure it was a Nissan/Datdun. Bad sign when even the wheels rust away, unusual.

  10. Paypal are a robbing shower of C*NTS. Fair play to the Germans on this occasion.
  11. Looks like a nicely sorted motor, GLWS Snowy.
  12. I hate it when people say this, but that looks dodgey to me. Photos certainly not taken in the UK, and no mention or explaination of that fact in the description. Registration fully blocked out. Nothing about engine or running gear. £200 dep at end of auction. No mention of viewings, which most folk would like before bidding. Seller has positive FB, including some car sales, but this just looks wrong? Anyone in the Lancs area want to ask about viewing the car to satisfy my curiousity?
  13. Hi Rob, Retropower do the jacking points, they're a member on here or they have an Ebay shop. Here you go: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Opel-Manta-Ascona-MK1-Vauxhall-Cavalier-left-nearside-front-jacking-point-panel-/271807856584?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4902bfc8 I should have the trim needed, but I'm in N Ireland. If you don't get sorted with something closer, let me know & I'll see if I have what he needs.
  14. They don't suit a car with chrome imo, but look well on the more recent Mantas.
  15. Thanks Sutty, dont want to derail your thread (but as I say if I purchase this item the parts I don't need will be available) but how much would the engine be worth assuming its complete with ECU, and is it much of an improvement over the 2.0?
  16. I was told today of a 2.2 (Reckord?) engine today, and thought of using it in a Manta that is currently engineless. However, I'm not sure if it's much of an upgrade over the 2.0GTE? Is it a big job to change over, can I use the 2.0GTE ecu etc or would it need to come with loom/ecu to be worth anything? If it comes with the parts you need I may be able to help if you don't get sorted elsewhere.
  17. Bidding is a bit lively on those Neil, looks like they're gonna make a pretty penny
  18. Why doen't he at least set the bonnet on the car for photos? Eejit.
  19. I only met the lad for the first time just about two weeks ago, he came up to buy some parts of me. I then met him again on saturday gone past, again to give him some more bits. He had great plans for the car but wanted to keep it pretty much standard so he got a set of twin dcoes webers and a manifold as well as few other bits. He was going to bring it with him on saturday, but had earlier changed the voltage thing behind the dash and none of his gauges worked, nor his speedo so he decided against it. We had a laugh about that and he was planing on taking the clocks out. Although I only met him briefly, he was a genuinely nice lad and sadly told me he bought the manta to as he wanted to get away from bikes, which were his first love, as he had two young kids now. We had planned to meet up again, and had arranged to keep each other informed of any meets we were going to.
  20. Tragically Alan lost his life in a motorcycle accident on his way home from work on Monday evening. RIP bud.
  21. Looking for one of these myself, anyone have one? Loads on Ebay but seem to be for carb, can anyone confirm they are different?
