  1. This must be the one that used to run Labbatts livery. It started out in 82 with an Opel 6 cylinder and for 83 and 84 it ran a BMW M88 engine. It ran in the Swedish Super Saloon series. After that it came in to the special saloons. It's an awesome car and pics of it are very rare. Thank you for sharing 👍👍
  2. Are dgas carbs the ones that were fitted to the 1.8 engine. It sounds familiar. Regarding movement of servos etc I read somewhere that remotely mounted twin BMW servos do the trick down at the front near side of the bonnet. The master cylinder it's self remained in the same are but was positioned slightly differently using a bracket. That being said, this was on a car converted to a 16 valve engine so whether or not this would work on a CIH would remain to be seen.
  3. That's quite something if it's a 2.0 litre. When you get to 150 brake that seems to be just about the limit of what it will produce. Just shows you what can be done with a bit of ingenuity. I like the idea of using a remote reservoir. Presumably the servo itself doesn't get in the road of the rear trumpet.
  4. Thanks for the replies lads. @spiney_norman that's was a point that I was wondering about. I knew the DCOE carbs necessitated modification or movement of the brake servo assembly. I had hoped that a different carb set up might fit with out a mod. When I get to that stage of my restoration I'll work out what I want to do but chances are I'll just stick with fuel injection. I wasn't really looking for performance gains. It was more just for a nice sound. Hopefully I'll be able to get an exhaust made that will give me the sound I'm after or close enough anyway.
  5. I've seen a few topics on here with regards to converting the 2.0 cih engine to carbs. There seems to be various options and ways of doing it. I just wanted to throw another one into the mix to find out if anyone had any experience of this type. I found a video on YouTube of a 2.0 GT/E running twin dellorto 45s. I would assume others have done it as well. If so I'd like to hear how you find it and how easy a conversion it is. Cheers Davy

  7. It could well be any of the issues mentioned by the guys above. To be fair they probably have a good bit more experience than myself with Mantas. It really is going to be a process of elimination. Even more frustrating is the fact you've replaced a good quantity of the stuff that should get the car to run. I'm just wondering if it could be an issue with the engine getting air. Possibly the airflow meter not functioning correctly or the hoses could be perished and have holes in them. Perhaps a perished vacuum hose. Just a thought since you are getting fuel and a spark. I may be talking out of turn so I'm sorry if I'm leading you up the wrong path. I just thought this might be worth a try to be sure it eliminates that side of things. Cheers Davy
  8. Literally just round the corner. Are ropes not legal anymore. I have no probs towing a motor with a rope when the tow eye is on the front. Problem is it's not going to be me that's driving the van. That's when i start having trust issues lol.
  9. Thanks @Kevin Abbott my straight bar isn't that long. Also it's going on to the tow bar of a sprinter van. Was a bit concerned that the incline up from the car to the van was a bit much. Possibly even damage the radiator.
  10. Hello all. I've never had to tow my Manta before but I will be moving it round to my lock up soon. I've noticed there is a a towing eye away down at the frame the steering rack sits on. Not really ideal since I'm using a straight bar. I've removed the front bumper and there is some frame work I could attach the bar to. I just wondered if anyone on here had any experience with towing their manta. I'd like to know the best way so I don't cause any damage. Cheers Davy

  12. Just happened to see a Manta B targa on instagram. I attempted to attach the url but it didn't seem to be working. I've never heard of any Targa topped mantas before so presumably this is someone's very inventive attempt at the sunroof rot As for the headlining I think the best option would be to let a trimmer handle it that way I know it's right.
  13. Thanks guys both great words of advice. Glad you brought that to my attention about the paint melting. I would have been kicking myself for doing that. It's so obvious now that it's been pointed out. I may do without or as stradacab mentioned use the bracer from the old unit, dependant of course on it's condition. I had often wondered if the windscreen needed to come out to to remove headlining. I'm assuming as there's mention of a broken windscreen further up the thread that is the case. My headlining could do with replacement. Is original opel material readily available?
  14. Yeah it's a factory sunroof. It's got blisters behind the aperture and one has become a hole. The clio sunroof would be a good fix for mine since it will get rid of the section of roof that's started to rot. Cheers Davy
  15. Hi. This looks like a good fix that I think I'll have a go at doing myself. Got a wee question with regards to the angle that's been fitted for strengthening. I can see where it's been welded at the end. I can't clearly see if it has been tacked on across the middle of the roof. I'm assuming it has been though, or there would probably be potential for it to rattle against the roof. Cheers Davy

  17. I used to work down in Alexandria back in 2011/12 used my manta as my daily back then maybe you saw mine. I must confess I'm not a fully paid up member of the club. I should have done it by now. I haven't met many of the owners other than at bridge of Allan car show a few years ago. There seems to be more over the east side of Scotland. Be nice to meet with over the glasgow way

  23. Hello and Happy New Year. The historc Monte Carlo Rally UK starting point will be taking place in Paisley on Wednesday the 27th of January. Amongst other interesting, rare and beautiful cars there are usually various Opel and Vauxhall types in attendance. Cheers Davy
  24. I wasn't sure where this message should go so I've just posted it here since I reckon most will see it. I'm interested to know if all Mantas we're built in the plant at Antwerp. There is a video of the last one being built at plant one there. I can't remember though if it's the last one that was built there or if it was the last ever manta. Anyway if anyone knows if any were built elsewhere I'd be interested to know. My manta is a D reg gte so I'm guessing it would have been built there. I know the complete opel factory is now closed but I'd still quite like to take the Manta to the site of the factory just to take it home again. Cheers Davy
