Dubmaster77
Hi! Had the cavalier in for a little tune up and service last week. There are some problems with the rear axle, One of the bolts has sheared off and the end of the torque tube is pulling away!! Doesnt look to hard to fix to be honest but there is also some play in the rear UJ and rubber donut. Would like to knock these jobs out all in one go.... As the rear axle does seem to knock over bumps The problem is I cannaot find any one who will sell me a UJ. Vauxhall dont seem to list mk1 cavalier or Opel manta? Mine is a 1600 model will this affect the propshaft? Cheers, Stu.
Retro Power
I am happy to be told otherwise, but as far as I know the uj's are retained in the prop by hot injected plastic retainers, which are pretty much there for life, I guess it should be possible to push the bearing cups out after heating to melt the plastic, then stake new ones in, but I have never done it and neither has my local prop manufacturer!! A brand new, serviceable prop from them is around £
