Denis K
I need to get my xe head ported and polished. Has anyone any recommendations on who i should get to do the job?
Retro Power
Hi, what power are you aiming for? Below 220hp there is no gain from porting at all. Polishing won't gain anything either really. Above that then there are gains to be had. I only know of people over here unfortunately, but Paul Exon, Exon Race Engines, is well worth a call, as is John Read (JRE) and also Martin Bowyer
Denis K
The engine will have kent 278 degree cams and vernier pulleys with pocketed pistons and uprated valve springs along with the other bits to keep her reliable at high revs. It will be running on R1 bike carbs with megajolt ignition. Do you think a port and polish will be of any benefit to this set up??
lamchop77
Get in touch with Geoff at autosprint in Birmingham. He does awesome work. Think his heads are actually better than Exons, pretty sure that Paul was Geoffs apprentice.....then again I could be talking poop!!!! Had my 2.2 race head done by him and it is a work of art. Retro Power
HI Chris, that's interesting! I know Paul worked for years at QED, was he at autosprint before that? he races at the same autograss club as me in the same class (class 9) which I how I know him. Re. the engine spec, do you mean pocketed stock pistons or high top ones? in my limited experience, its not really worth spending the money on cams etc with stock pistons as the pockets lose compression ratio which reduces the gains from the cams (which obviously cost money!) I normally go in this order: Throttle bodies, arp rod bolts and engine management then High comp pistons then Cams and solid lifters and valve springs and titanium retainers. then steel rods and more revs! only after that would I worry about porting, in conjunction with bigger valves, That's not gospel, there's plenty of other routes, but doing it that way means you never have to undo anything or sell bits to upgrade again
lamchop77
Like I said I could be talking poop. But Mick manning uses autosprint heads and they allegedly get more power. The craftsmanship on the head I have is amazing I am truly impressed.....yours ain't bad either!!!!!!!! Chris
