hi,i am fitting new brake pipes on my 85 gte and noticed the new ate master cylinder didn't come with a check valve as shown in the haynes manual i looked at the old one and that did'nt have one either,it had the union, housing, extension but nothing under it,is this right.it does have a brake balancer in the circuit .the last owner warned me that he had braked and the pedal went to the floor with no brakes if he lifted the pedal and braked again they were normal, this only happened a couple of times so i am overhauling everything plus its been off the road for nearly 20 years.thanks.

Hi. I had a look at my GTE master cylinder and it doesn't appear to have a check valve either. Only other thing I can see is the piston stop screw as highlighted in the manuel. I wonder if perhaps the check valve is located in behind the banjo connection towards the front of the unit. Unless as you say the balancing unit takes its place. The check valve is there to keep a residual pressure in the rear brakes so that the wheel cylinders don't need to travel as far when the brakes are pressed. Possibly if there is balancing unit this may have stuck open therefore not keeping the residual pressure at the rear which would mean you would need to pump the breaks to build that up. Just a thought hope you get it sorted out

Cheers

Davy
