blythy
just wondering if the prop on my 2.0 gte manta b will mate straight up to a 2.0 or 2.5v6 omega gearbox? many thanks Edited November 7, 2010 by blythy
upk
if your omega gearbox is same as mine then gearbox is a flange fix type not spline. The omega prop as a splined sliding section at the centre fixing point. I reckon you would need the omega prop and modify that to fit the manta. ie shorten the 2 sections and change the rear end to mate with manta axle. i can post up pictures if it helps as i have both box and prop from my 2.0 omega?? blythy
some pictures would be excellent! i dont have a gearbox at the moment, but have a v6 to go in,who i share the manta with runs a scrap yard and the car is on a tight budget. theres more chance of an omega coming in than a 1.8 manta, plus i dont know how long the box would last with the abuse we will give it!! mantaray
The Omega box is alot bigger and you will need to modify the tunnel. You will also need to have a custom prop made. You need to have the front flange from the Omega prop, fitted to you Manta prop. When I did this convertion for a friend, the company I used fitted the flange to the Manta prop on splines, so that the new prop could side in the same way as the original Manta prop did. blythy
modifiying the tunnel is not a problem, from one i have seen its just a case of raising the top 1/3 of the tunnel around 2". i think there is a place local who specialise in prop shaft ect so might be worth enquiring with them, aslong as it isnt to expensive to do.
