Retro Power
....................but you can modify the steel sump, basically make it like the manta one and you are sorted for less £

johnboy
Hi there stevieh, can i ask what car have you put the GTE motor into please? and will you be running the engine with the manifolds and injection as per the astra config, obviously the exhaust will be different, cheers John
mantadoc
its to do with the baffles in the sump, the astra lump is designed to be mounted transversely and has the baffles fitted a certain way where the manta 1800 sump was designed to be used in a longitudinal setup and is 90degrees different. Manufacturers rarely put baffles in normal sumps. You might get a plate to separate the crank case somewhat from the sump but never pulled one off and found baffles to stop surge in an average car yet. That said, depending on the shape side to side surge which is what people generally baffle against may not be your problem, if the sump slopes up towards the crossmember side surge under braking could be but a flat plate spot welded in the right place would stop that. StevieH
Cheers guy i think i'll take off the sump and have a good look inside has anyone got a picture of the inside of a manta sump by ay chance just for a guide reference . cheers steve. The GTE engine is going into a chevette (no jokes please) and it will be running the astra manifolds and injection.

The manta 1.8 big wing sump is empty inside, no baffles. The GTE engine is going into a chevette (no jokes please) and it will be running the astra manifolds and injection. Nothing wrong with a Chevette, we love them, not as pretty as Kadetts but if you hit something flat they look more like one
johnboy
As already said, nowt wrong with a chevette, the sump off a 2.0 manta cih engine doesn't have any baffles either just a smooth pressed steel jobby, i personally would run it as it is and if you do get a drop in pressure when cornering or accelerating then baffle it then if needed, i have had a lot of sumps off Fords, vauxhalls, citroen/peugeot and many others in my work and very rarely do you see them baffled, Good luck with it, John. yukspeed
Cheers everyone I think I'll just put it in as is then . If it goes bang I'll let you no Steve, No point in waiting for pressure to drop, the damage is then done, crank grind/brg. etc get it baffled, easy enough to do, weld plate in with hole for pup to go through. See pic of plate in one of my sumps. Any probs bell me Good Luck. Yuk yukspeed.com
