Fermanta
Just spotted this on ebay - might be woth a punt to someone near it! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Royale-2-8-auto-saloon-/221129039423?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item337c515e3f
Alf
I'm no expert but surely that's a Senator? I thought the Royales were the Vauxhall version of the Monza, complete with hatchback?? Alf.
Alf
Well, you live and learn, I just 'Googled' it and apparently you could buy a Royale as a Saloon or Coupe, I've only ever seen the coupe version!!! Alf.
spiney_norman
Royales in any condition are getting thin on the ground, this one looks pretty saveable. Alf, they were basically rebadged Senators and Monzas, except most Royales had carbed 2.8 engines instead of the 3.0 used in the Opel versions. There were 96 Royales built at the end of the run with the 3.0 injected engine to use up the leftover parts, I drove what was supposedly the last Royale ever built as my daily for about 6 months. It was a coupe so late it came with an Opel blitz badge to fill the holes in the tailgate, and a series 2 Monza interior!
Fermanta
From the seller: Well, that's it sold £150 : I wasn't expecting much as a mint condition Opel Senator A went for just over £500 the other day. Don't understand why these cars fetch so little money. Even more of a concern is that the buyer appears to be into banger racing ??? Ah well.
