Hi,

Do you need a rwd one for a Manta or just the standard Astra/ Cavalier fwd one? If you end up wanting a new rwd one, a place called Rally and competition equipment in Stoke on trent do them for about £160. They also break up rally cars so they might have a second hand one if you're lucky.

If you end up buying one for an Escort , it will need a little bit of cutting and welding to get it to clear the gearbox crossmember of your Manta. They fit perfectly in the Manta's engine bay, clearing the suspension and front crossmember fine, but need to be about an inch lower where the two into one section goes under the gearbox crossmember. It doesn't take much to get them to fit ok. These manifolds are made by Ashley . I don't think you'll find one of these other manifolds but if you are offered a BTB equal length primaries manifold then don't buy it as they definately don't fit in the Manta engine bay. SBD sell these BTB manifolds and I bought one from them a couple of years ago. They look amazing but catch on the inner wing, strut top, chassis rail, crossmember, sump... you get the picture! The Ashley ones are quite easy to get hold of ... good luck with finding one... Luke

Thanks for the advice Luke, it seems an Ashley manifold is the way to go - hopefully i will (fingers crossed) find a second hand ashley manifold thats already been on a manta at least then i can be sure its going to fit without too much tweeking.

joining the club is the best move i've made so far on this manta project - once again thankyou guys for the advice its going to save me lots of head scratching :thumbup ...Dan

I have a BTB one that fits perfectly. As far as mild steel ones go it is absolutely superb. They are around £450 though.

I will be making a few stainless ascona/manta XE manifolds soon...2010_04280025.jpg

The a**ley mild steel ones that come covered in black powder coat are pretty poor. They are not good for power, and the coating burns off first time you drive the car, leaving the manifold to rust nicely. VHT paint stops this but they are still poor.

Retro power,

Was your BTB manifold the one with the equal length primaries from SBD? I'd agree with them being much better quality than the Ashley ones but it was absolutely miles off when I tried it on my Manta.I even tried moving the engine over to get it to fit . I was really dissapointed as it cost me just under £500 and only got £400 back off SBD when I returned it. The stainless manifold looks well in your picture. I've heat wrapped my Ashley manifold so I don't know if the powder coat's come off underneath this.

Err to be honest I don't know which one as its been laying around for ages! I do know it fits as I popped it onto the engine when I was dummying up the stainless one.

I will take a pic if I get chance.

I take it your BTB one was a two-piece one like mine?

I will prob sell the BTB one on here soon, as I seem to be using stainless ones on everything now!

Re. the heat wrap, over the long term you'll need to keep an eye on it if its used in the wet, as the heat wrap soaks up water and then rots the manifold a treat. Its ok if you unwrap it occasionally and repaint it with vht then re-wrap. I've seen manifolds that have just crumbled away under the wrap!
