Norph
Hi all, so, it seems that my engine build is not willing to finsh without putting up a fight! Mounted the waterpump, and the impeller (if that's what you call it) is fouling against the back of the timing cover . My question is, is there more than one type? I got this new from the club shop years ago and have always believed it to be the correct fit... Any help, much appreciated. Cheers, Andrew

We recently fitted a new pump to our Manta B (1.8), and the only thing I found was that I had slightly over tightened the belt and this was causing the bearings to be noisey/ rattely. I am not sure if there are more than one type, I did notice that the one I took of had fewer blades than the new one and they were cast amd were slightly thicker?. It might have a rough edge on the impeller that is catching on the water pump housing? Hope this helps and the other guys might have more info Disco
spiney_norman
Is your car an OHC or a CIH engine? I only really know about the CIH ones but the only difference between the two types available is whether they're for a fixed fan or a viscous one. cam.in.head
there are two types of impellor inside the pump.a pressed metal one or a cast one but either type should fit without touching the inside of the timing case ..so assuming no one has machined the mounting face on the engine, there are no big burrs & that your not using an ultra ultra thin gasket there should be no problems.its most likely that the water pump has not had its impellor pressed fully onto its shaft.DO NOT HAMMER or tap it on but get an engineering shop or garage with a press move it on slighly .try to get some measurements or compare with another known pump.
