ascona400r
Nice project. Seems to have had good fabrication work done to her in the past. What axle / diff / brakes are you running, as i noticed the 5 stud setup. Built something similar myself over this past few years but it got out of hand financially so havn't looked at her this 12 months or more. Take plenty of pics and keep up the good work. Dave750rs
The car is a credit to the previous owner who carried out all the fabrication work to an incredible standard over a 10 year period. From what i believe the car has the 400 running gear (Or similar set up) the gearbox is a rover sd1 not sure about diff as i have a few options as the car came with a large spares package ie axles, diffs ,hubs, wishbones, panels etc etc and i have basically stored it. It could be an Aberdeen reg number as the car was from the Buckie area originally I currently stay in Auldearn and compete in the scottish rally scene when i can .I have seen some clips of a 4 door ascona in the scottish rallies with i believe has a vauxhall V6 power plant is this the same car your friend rallies ?? it seems to go well !!! ASCONA-HOLIC
Very nice car! It looks extremely good in body. I wish you all the goods with her I see 5-stud wheels, interesting! What parts are used for that?
rallycinq
Is the rally car log book still valid? Cheers D
Dave750rs
The car is not logbooked so am currently prepping the car to current rally regs
rallycinq
I think you had better grab your local scroot and get him to check the car. For starters you will not be allowed the V8.Maximun 6 cylinders.. I think the the cage will need a minimum 50mm main hoop. Better to check first than bark up the wrong tree. Dave750rs
Will do that thanks !! I thought you could use any production car engine for stage rallying ? Will look into it before i go too far !! Cheers
rallycinq
The regs changed. The dreaded 'K37 issue'. If the car had a current log book still live then it would have been fine to use the V8 for a few years yet. However, as yours has expired, it will need to be to the new K37 regs. Plenty online about it, but a lot of it confusing. So hence my advise to get the scroot who will be issuing the logbook involverd before the wallet is opened.
