Helping a chap with an A series, SR model, with factory steel sunroof and vinyl roof. The roof is in good condition, but won’t to get it perfect and considering having a specialist replace the material to make it A1.

Couple of questions, hopefully you guys/gals can help:

1. How do I get the sunroof out or at least how do I release the roof lining panel that’s on the underside of the of the sunroof panel?

2. ‘C’ pillar vents, do the undo from the outside or am I going to have to strip the back seat out, and partially strip / remove the roof lining (internal) to access fixings.

 Cheers in advance.

What do the C pillar vents look like? If they look like this image they pull out from the outside (they are held in by 4 pins that push into the panel, if they are the bigger ones you need to remove the headlining on the inner pillar to remove 2 screws and then they slide out from the outside.

Thanks for your help, sadly its the type thats going to involve lifting the roof lining, but a job thats worth doing. Having looked at your BLOG, nice looking 'A' I don't suppose you know a good source for front / rear screen rubbers, type with the chrome trim insert.......If this was Opel GT stuff I'd find it straight away but tracing 'A' series stuff appears a bit harder. Thanks

Its not too hard to lift the lining, get the hair drier out, warm it up at the bottom by the back seat and slowly ease it up, i think you can get away with leaving the rear screen side attached and just remove the trim around the back quarter window and start from that side. You don't have to lift it that far to get to the 2 screws. once the 2 screws are out it will just slide out from the outside.

You will only be able to get reproduction screen rubbers.

These 2 places have them. I have ordered from ATZ (but it was a while ago) but not from the other place.

and Dr manta has them

but he is more expensive! I have bought stuff from him but only if i cant get it from anywhere else. You will need the chrome insert if you dont already have it.

make sure on the front screen rubber that you get the one with the lip so it covers the gap from the screen to the dash.

I do have some spare chrome insert, but only enough to do one screen.

Glad you like the car 🙂 Im off to buy paint for it tomorrow so i can get on and finished the outside now its finally getting warmer.
