Has anyone out there discovered a way of mating the cih gearbox to an xe lump? Could some sort of adapter plate be made up and fitted to the bellhousing ? Im aware the starter is mounted on the wrong side but with a bit of cutting on the bellhousing could it be possible ? im guessing the extra length in the bellhousing may cause clutch lever adjustment problems and possibly mainshaft problems. i've also pondered over the idea of butchering a front wheel drive box bellhousing and trying to bolt/weld it to the cih box. Im keen to try and avoid using the pricy 1.8 gearbox route and just wonder if anyone has done this before? Dan

it will be a lot of work mate to do want you with a cih gearbox and as nearly as expensive as the 1.8 box,you could go the vauxhall carlton 1.8 route,it uses basically the same engine as the 1.8 manta and it's rear wheel drive, not sure what year but it must be a mk1 or 2 model i think or you go the f**d route and get an adapter of sbd and a f**d gearbox,i know i should never mention f**d on here but if it keeps the few 1.8 manta's left together it worth doing.
