Mantaray80
I just bought a new coil for my 2.0 SR B and it came with a ballast resistor. I've never actually seen on fitted before, and there certainly isn't on on the car at the moment. However, it does say on the coil that it should be fitted. So, two questions....should I fit it? and.....how? i.e. where does it fit to...
manta400john
Think the ignition feed wire to the + side of the coil will be of the resistor type anyway, or a resistor will be fitted somewhere in that wire. Check the voltage at the battery then at the feed wire, think the voltage should be about 10 volts at the feed?....assuming it has a resistor. Someone with a B sr will maybe confirm this....or not! On the points cars the resistor isn't fitted in the wire, it is the wire. Look for two wires crimped into the one terminal on the coil. The black one is 12V from starter terminal when cranking the translucent amber one is the resistance wire.

And so unless your wiring's been buggered about with then don't fit the ballast supplied with the new coil. John.
