74009
Hi all, I need a new Water Pump for my 1986 GT/E; seems there are two types, Solid or Viscous fan. How do I tell which kind I want (or will either work)? Cheers Stuart Edited October 29, 2010 by 74009
MANTAMAN
It'll be a vicious type for an 86 GTE

mantadoc
Pump for fixed fan had a flat face with four bolt holes in. Pump for visco had the pulley, usually with a cone shape and a large threaded secsion sticking out of the middle. The one ambiguity is some pumps, usually seen on older 6 cylinder motors used the standard pump with four bolt holes bur a different visco coupleing that bolted to this essentially standard pump. All the bolts used to secure pulley and fixed fan or pulley and the wierd visco had 10mm heads. Basically if there are 4 bolt heads holrding the pulley and / or fan on it is one type, and if no bolt heads visible the other.
